What is the count now after 2 movies on how many times the group of dwarves has been captured?
1) Trolls
2) Goblins

I enjoyed the movie after seeing it tonight. Smaug was probably the best done dragon I've seen in the theater to date. I do wish Jackson would take a hint from Game of Thrones and realize drama increases when major characters die. I know that would require additional deviation from the book but it was well done generally when he did just that. For example, I like Jackson's liberties with respect to the men of the lake the the black arrow myth. It was pretty funny after a few seconds to realize the bad guy in laketown was none other than Stephen Fry.
It was an enjoyable movie experience overall and better in the theater than I expect it would be on the smaller screen.

Just got back from Hobbit in IMAX 3d. I really liked, great story( Jackson made it more complex). humor, action, characters, and smaug was badass. I liked tauriel( she was hot). I also liked the different plotlines and how each of the dwarves had a distinct personality. We also got to see how normal people live in middle-earth and there ARE BLACK PEOPLE!! Loved the reference to Gimli too.

Well that blows. If it makes you feel better I had a frick-up semester to where my parents revoked a semester abroad to New Zealand. Granted I never came close to getting kicked out, but it still sucked that I wasn't going to smoke weed in the Shire and climb the Misty Mountains for a semester.

I liked the elf/dwarf love story. And to be honest the star wars prequels have some good scenes too.

I know there's something coming but the escapes from spiders, stone giants etc should have already lost at least one companion.
It is fantasy but the possibility of death striking down major characters helps the story feel more real.

i thought the first movie really followed the book, this one had some changes that worked very well, i.e. the elf-dwarf romance (i sure don't remember that in the hobbit)...nor were orcs chasing them down the river as they escaped in barrels...

I just saw the movie tonight and thoroughly enjoyed. I cannot decide if I like it more than the first Hobbit movie because I loved every bit of that movie as well. My only complaint of this movie is the inclusion of Tauriel. Totally unnecessary and her forced romance plot line with a dwarf really irked me. I still do not understand why she had to be included.
While there were a number of changes from the book, I still loved this movie. I will be seeing it again on Sunday.

Yeah, but atleast you never have to tell people you failed out of LSU. And I hate to be that guy, but O enjoyed the star wars prequels. I liked the gladiaotr scene is Attack of the Clones, loved revenge of the sith, and Darth maul was badass.

Also, I thought the movie was alright. I understand how all movies go away from the book for whatever reason. The original LOTR movies under Jackson did as did the first the Hobbit movie but I felt that this movie went way, way too far off course. I know some of the scenes come from Tolkien's other works, which I am glad Jackson brings into the story, but some are just completely Jackson's imagination.
I felt like they rushed passed scenes that actually happened in the book to make room for scenes that were made up which I didn't like.
With that said, even though Legolas wasn't in the book I did like this edition of him. He was way more of a hardass which was cool. I also liked the barrel fight scene which was also a Jackson original. And yes I also loved how they portrayed Smaug, that way surpassed my expectations. Especially the first scene he had with Biblo when a lot of the dialogue came straight from the book.
eta: I liked the first one more, I know it deviated as well but I felt like it stayed more on course than the second one. Also, the second never played the main "Dwarves, Misty Mountains Cold" theme that was the main theme in the first one. I liked that theme, sucks they didn't play it.
