Found a link to some contemporary newspaper articles. LINK all slanted pretty hard to one side or the other.

I knew that scene with Randall at the end was TV. It is hard for viewers because you want to comment about the characters in the movie but realize it doesn't match up with history.

And those subtitles at the end were retarded fast.

Just to follow the theme of keeping everything in one thread, what should be HCs next mini series?

Rome, the Borgias and the Tudors have been done. Hard to think of something that could mix action, intensity and a great story so well. There are a lot of great stories, but not with a significant amount of action. Let's face it, one of the reasons this series was so good was that you knew a shoot out or a big, intense scene was right around the corner.

I posed this question earlier. Mine:
The Devil in the White City. Leave the World's Fair part out and just focus on the serial killer.

Bloody Williamson. It regards labor riots in southern IL in the 1920's. The problem with this one is it would too much resemble H&F.

Kent State massacre.

The Manhattan Project.

I think they could pull off a really good John Brown series.

I think if it was done right, they could do a good series on the interaction and strife between the settlers and the indians presented showing the good and the bad of both sides. Maybe something in the Texas/Oklahoma/New Mexico area. All the shows regarding this tend to glorify one side or the other and demonize one side or the other. It would be nice to see something showing both the warts and the humanity of both sides.

I like the John Brown idea too. Another good one would be Andrew's Raid.

Wikipedia:
quote:

The Great Locomotive Chase or Andrews' Raid was a military raid that occurred April 12, 1862, in northern Georgia during the American Civil War. Volunteers from the Union Army, led by civilian scout James J. Andrews, commandeered a train and took it northwards toward Chattanooga, Tennessee, doing as much damage as possible to the vital Western and Atlantic Railroad (W&A) from Atlanta to Chattanooga as they went, pursued by other locomotives. Because they had cut the telegraph wires, no warning could be sent to Confederate forces along their route. The raiders were eventually captured and some were executed as spies. Some of Andrews' Raiders became the first recipients of the Medal of Honor.

They already did a docudrama on Sherman's March a few years back. It was pretty good. Right now, there is a Civil War miniseries called "To Appomattox" that is in pre-production. I don't think they have found a network to carry the show yet. Maybe History should step in and oblige them?

The Donner Party is a great story but it is hard to think it would be as action packed as H & M

One thing i noticed, the McCoy's are out manned.
Hatfields have Wyatt Earp,Curly Bill and Jake Taylor while the McCoys only have Morgan Earp.

Got into this thread very late(around page 40). Just went back to read from the beginning and saw this quote and damn near shite myself laughing.

Finished the series today. Good old dvr! Really well done; excellent casting and the settings in KY and WV were so perfectly done - had the real "feel" of the region. I know, I lived in KY for 14 years. Totally enjoyed it all.

...he was initially horrified at the scalping, but he obviously got over it real quick. It meant nothing. They eventually hired Bad Frank anyway and commenced to ambushing and killing or "legally arresting" seeing as how they were all law abiding deputies and definitely not a bunch of bounty hunter hired thugs.
Interesting, ironic was that Randall started off on the high road, a Christian, and all but his high road degenerated and by the end he was a drunk and seemed to totally reject his Christian values. While Anse wound up inching up the high road and in the end, he embraced the Christian faith and was baptized. And was the one who wrote the letter to the newspaper setting the feud aside.

Watched the documentary today. The thing that surprised me was that in the movie they made Johnsie out to be the reluctant follower that had to much of a heart for it. The documentary painted him as a big instigator and even said he was the one who beat up Mrs. Hatfield.
