Well that was a movie. Script really needed some tightening up. Definitely better than Squad.

Margot is still great as Harley. Ewan is so underappreciated.

Very okay. It’s all about Harley and it would’ve been better with more Harley. All of the fight choreography and stunt budget went to Robbie’s character.

Slowest buildup ever. Once you get to the final reel it’s great. But it’s a long road to get there.

Black Mask is just gay enough to make him entertaining. Obi Wan knew how to play it and make it work.

Zasz is a wasted character. Other than him everyone else does fine. No one as good as Robbie.

So would it have just been better with Harley and zero Birds of Prey assistance? Sure sounds like it.

Probably. Everyone is loose backstory until the third reel when they team up. Might’ve been better if they got together sooner. They’re better when they’re playing off of Robbie.

I think Robbie wanted to be the one to have the first female superteam movie. Hence the BoP. Hoping she gets the Harley and Ivy movie she’s been talking about.

Margot was amazing as Harley. Winstead was a little wasted as Huntress. We definitely need a lot more of her. Ewan was good as Black Mask. Just over the top enough. I actually enjoyed Canary by the end of the movie. Rosie Perez is meh.

The movie was a video game, and I mean that in the best way possible. Ultra stylized fighting/violence, great soundtrack throughout the movie, and it had a bright visual pallet.

It was a comic book movie that had Quinn chasing down a car on roller skates in the third act. Didnt take itself serious at all. I really liked it.

B- to C+ range. Women might like it more.

Took my daughter to see this. It was fine. Definitely a lot better than Suicide Squad. It was too long but Margot Robbie was terrific. Ewan McGregor was great too. He and Robbie squaring off was all this movie needed. Shoe horning in the Birds Of Prey was completely unnecessary.

This review from Collider makes a lot of sense

quote:

I’m going to postulate a theory (and if anyone at Warner Bros. who’s reading this wants to go on the record to tell me if I’m right or wrong, let me know). Cut back to November 2016 and Warner Bros. hires Christina Hodson (Bumblebee) to write the script for a Harley Quinn/Birds of Prey movie. Move forward to December 2016, and now there’s also a Gotham City Sirens film in the works that would reunite Robbie with Suicide Squad director David Ayer. Skip ahead again to August 2017 and now there’s word of a Joker and Harley Quinn movie from the directors of Focus. Even in December 2017, Robbie noted there were three different Harley Quinn projects in the works, and noted how Harley “needs a little girl gang.” Not long after this, Robbie scores critical acclaim and her first Oscar nomination for I, Tonya, which gives her greater bargaining power, and I’m betting that the various Harley Quinn scripts that were swimming around were condensed into Birds of Prey.

Why does this matter? Because Birds of Prey plays like a film that’s struggling to have a clear idea of what it wants to be.

Did Margot look hot? What of Mary Elizabeth Winstead? Are there boobies? ARE THERE BOOBIES?

This movie doesn’t come across as a hobbled together film (Justice League/Suicide Squad). There are no missing pieces or out of place segments.

C+

It’s not bad, but nothing I will be drawn back to or really talk about again.

Would have rather seen a Gotham City Sirens movie. None of the supporting characters in this movie really moved the needle for me. Victor was lame. Maybe Gotham just spoiled me.

Oh it was definitely scatterbrain. Was it as scattered as Justice League and TROS? No. But it definitely had a lot and yet not a lot going on.

The problem with that is Catwoman is being saved for Reeve's film.

One good thing is that this is the first DCEU film that doesn’t push info or characters in from the previous films. Other than scenes from Harley’s origin in SS, we don’t see or hear about the larger universe. “Batman” is only referred to once.

So with all of the bitching about this film in multiple threads, only five or six of us have actually seen it.

Rented this on VOD. It’s a shame that it underperformed at the box office, I had a blast watching it.

I am a big fan of the comics, so I kind of like when these movies go deep into the bench to pull out some lesser known characters. I was never traditionally a big fan of Harley, as she is a more new character. But I’m really digging the on screen character.

One thing I noticed that struck me as kind of weird though, was that for an R rated movie, other than the scene with Huntress’ family, there was a lot of bloodless violence. It was basically like Marvel PG-13 type violence

I think WB really screwed up making it R rated.
