i'll probably get blasted for this, but for some reason, i can't get the idea that American Idol is staged out of my head.. i mean, America's votes probably count for something, but i really have a gut feeling that the producers know who they want to win and they control who stays and who leaves.. it just seems funny that somehow every year, there is a healthy balance of genres represented in the finals... also, there is usually a mix of different races in the finals to keep the different cultures interested in the show (asians, african americans, whites, women, gays, etc)... that doesn't bother me in any way, and every person left in this competition is talented, but it just seems kind of fishy to me.. i mean look at the winners for the first few seasons
kelly clarkson
ruben studdard
fantasia
carrie underwood
taylor hicks
jordan sparks
a few of them have a little in common, but for the most part, they have all genres of music covered, and a white male/female and black male/female has won it... i don't know, i've never even voted because i just think it's rigged

My dream scenario would have been if they stupidly saved deandre last week. And then this week two had to go home and deandre and Jessica were the bottom two.
now THAT would have been fcking awesome

If all of them do what they're best at....Hollie singing ballads destroys the rest of the contestants. Sorry, it's the truth. She is flawless when singing songs like that.

I don't think they control it. I think the person who is most likeable wins and their talent is secondary. Clearly the judges try to sway votes but that would be a huge arse scandel if producers were messing with the votes. Go back and look at the winners and think back to their personalities. For the most part, they were all humble, funny, southern people. All this diva behavior from Jessica has got her in a pickle. Philip's hardheaded behavior is gonna burn him. He can't last on looks alone. He's already shown us he can't make any other sound other than dave matthews impressions. Poor Hollie may be the most vanilla kid we've ever had to get into the top 10. I feel like we don't even know her! Colten and Elise are starting to open up so I think America will keep them a little longer. Skylar and Joshua have the best personalities by far. Skylar is like a Kellie Pickler part deaux. I don't think Kellie was even a top 2 on her season but her personality and looks got her a record deal anyways and all kinds of hosting gigs. I forsee that for Skylar too.

I don't believe in vote rigging conspiracy. But i do believe that the judges are told to judge and attempt to influence certain people in the competition. That is how we keep different genres in my opinion.
Once it gets down to the end, it becomes all about likability and popularity though. The talent portion of voting choice will go out the window.
The judges are trying a little too hard this season to influence voting. The deandre love was ridiculous and that crap last night was over the top.
I wish they would go back to judging and less bias. They aren't even giving constructive criticism. Steven Tyler "Hollie, that was less than perfect", okay thanks for the help arse hole.
Then you have Jennifer Lopez who keeps repeating shite like "you are coming into your own and you owned that song". She doesnt know how to judge.
Randy Jackson is just awful too.

"little pitchy"
"you owned it"
"dude"
"yo"
"_____'s gotta have it"
"_____'s in it to win it"
that's about all you're gonna get out of Randy Jackson unless Jessica gets the lowest votes, then he'll get on stage and rant for a minute or two.
LOL did you catch him say that Jessica is "one of the best singers in America....ever" when he ran on stage? I laughed my arse off at that nonsense.

so you don't think its possible that the producers throw out the votes and just pick who they want to win based on who they think will sell the most records?
ETA: they have to know that people just vote over and over and over, so the 'voting' has to lose its validity

I thought he lost his damn mind last night. That statement almost made me die in shock. I mentioned it before but the shite that Steven Tyler said the other night about skylar and colton were making love during their song and all were definitely awkward and out of place not to mention the shite he told Ledet about the back up dancer. Tyler is losing it.
We also can't forget randy's favorite judging line, "Yo, Yo America, I think she wants it. I think she wants it". No randy, everyone there actually doesn't want it, it's only a select few and I am glad you are there to point it out.

right... because now it's an asain's turn to win american idol..

I don't think the majority is rigged but I think they definitely have influence. Last night looked so rigged that it wasn't funny. I don't think Jessica had lowest votes. I think they realized that using the save would drive ratings for next week since it will be a double elimination.

Not a chance.
First, the producers have no incentive to rig it because they have first option on everyone in the Top 10. So even though the winner is guaranteed a record deal through the producer's company, the company has the first crack at anyone in the top ten.
Second, Kris Allen would not have been the producers choice to win, Adam Lambert would have.
In fact, there have been several winners lately that have not been the producers first signee.

I really don't think they do. It wouldn't surprise me. But I just don't see it happening. Would be too much of a disaster if it came out because they would have unfairly cost others a chance at a guaranteed contract. It really gets legally nightmarish at that point for them if that was the case.
The judges overinfluencing the vote is real though. It is so obvious. Especially this season. I'm fine with them doing that even though I disagree with their biases. But I would be pretty pisses if they rigged votes.

That's just because Tyler and Lopez suck as judges. The show really took a hit when Cowell left. I would personally like to see Jimmy Ivine as an actual judge. He gives the best criticism.

This is where your theory breaks down.

The voting process is set up to limit the voting process at least a little bit.
There are two hours after the show where you can call in and text votes. Those are unlimited for two hours. You have from when the show ends airing on the east coast till 2 hours after airing in Hawaii to cast up to 50 votes online.
So people can mass vote but it is a little more limited than the early seasons
I admit to voting my limit online the other night
