Robert Redford and Kevin Costner were two of the directors that beat out Scorsese.

Kathyrn Bigelow just won Best Director. Holy shite. It looks like The Hurt Locker might win Best Picture after all.

Reminds me of the year Crash won.

The Hurt Locker has now taken in only $19.3 million worldwide. Avatar over a billion. Shows how politicized it is.

If you look at the top grossers almost every year, the list is full of shitty, shitty movies. I don't see how Avatar losing shows the politics of the Oscars (which I admit is political).

That has so much to do with things that have nothing to do with how good the film is.

well

1. avatar was a bigger political movie

2. are you claiming that transformers is the 2nd or 3rd best movie this year?

Said the same about Crash. Wasted my time and money. Hollywood is all about PC crap.

Avatar is good because it makes money???????

Neither film really deserved the win. Up was probably the best film of the year overall, but an animated movie will never win Best Picture (including Avatar obviously).

Weak year, Hurt Locker wasn't a terrible winner. Even IB would have been a subpar Best Picture winner.

There's really very few truly great movies on the list of Best Picture winners. Hurt Locker was a good not great movie that fits in well on the list of Oscar winners. It's certainly better than the parade of crap that won during the 1980s.

The Hurt Locker is far superior than Crash. Also, if you're a conservative, it's pretty non-political.
