What was really rushed about this?

It didn't fit the momentum and arc of TDK. I feel like the death of Ledger pressured them to squeeze this in honestly. Part of me feels the Joker would have played a bigger role in TDKR.

We see Talia’s character acting out of the very character defined for her in the movie. Her goal as a character is to please her dead father and to honor him by finishing his work. Yet, she takes Bane back into the LOS, a man exiled by her father.

I took it as Talia's goal was to destroy Gotham and Batman, not just try to please her dad. So what that she is with Bane, he was always her protector and they had quite the affinity for each other.

We see Blake as a plot device, not really a character. He seems to be everywhere figuring everything out and forcing us to ask how and why? If he is to be the next Batman, SHOW us how and why. CONVINCE us he would be a great Batman. Figuring out who Bruce Wayne was by one look isn’t convincing in and of itself. In the vein of Batman, it would have been great to say “I SUSPECTED who you were so I did some more digging over EIGHT years…I have proof now” Again, SHOW us Blake is worthy of the cape.

I guess I see your complaint about figuring out Batman. Everything else he figured out, they showed how he did it. They showed him connecting the dead boy to the sewers and construction company, they showed him figuring out the League going after Gordon. I don't see how you consider him a plot device and not a character.

quote:

Selina Kyle: She was pretty good but I think it would have been helpful to get some slight insight into where she received her training to maintain the realism Nolan created. The only character in the Batman trilogy that could get away without a back-story was the Joker because not having a back-story REINFORCED his character

I just don't see this as a problem. We don't need to know her entire background to accept her character and ability as it is now.

Maybe Bane was too busy growing up in an Asian prison, doing terrorist stuff, and securing illegal, diamond mining rights in Africa to care about how the SEC investigates and finalizes trades. Maybe he didn't care if it bankrupted Bruce Wayne, he just wanted another way to cause him grief.

So...he basically winged the plan hoping Wayne would throw a nuke in his lap?

I don't want anyone misunderstanding me in this thread. TDKR was good, but when viewed against the storytelling standards established by BB and the first 70% of TDK, it doesn't quite measure up.

The Serum/Pain Killer would have paralleled Bane better

So some super healing/strength serum parallels a guy with a morphine mask? I'm not getting the parallel other than they would both take drugs

Wayne was becoming that man, then suddenly trusts someone he barely knows with a device that could destroy Gotham?

How many times do we have to tell you that he knew Miranda Tate for at least three years before the events of The Dark Knight Rises? She had been on the board for a good while and helped fund his fusion reactor project until he gave up on it and retreated into his mansion, with no one seeing or hearing from him for the next three years.

I'm not saying he could not have or should not have flooded it, but the potential use for clean energy is astounding. He does not want to flood it.

Dagget being a known consort of bane, Tate is free and clear of any and all suspicion (a poor choice on his part)

He is worried about dagget, a ruthless businessman/criminal getting his hands on it. Not a philanthropist who has been behind the project for years who invested incredible sums of her own money into it.

He is torn on what to do and makes the choice (the wrong one) to put his trust in someone else

He doesn't want to flood it and if you remove that option from the table, which he did, he pretty much had a gun to his head as to installing Tate as the CEO.

He also trusts Kyle and even after she betrays him trusts her again

I think he just wanted to frick up the stock exchange as a bonus, frick with Bruce's money, and then force Bruce to turn to Talia.

ETA: and she would drop the nuke in his lap.

Not only that, but he trusted Fox who pushed him to giving control to Miranda Tate.

There were 30+ people on the board whom Wayne know much longer than a 28 year old who came out of nowhere. So he trusts her simply because she threw money at him? That would have raised red flags with the Bruce Wayne from BB and TDK.

For someone who likes Nolan's writing style, you seem to fail at grasping parallelisms.

ETA: no offense

Maybe in the three years he worked alongside her, he liked her more than the other 30+ people.

Remember he left Gotham when he was about 21, came back, then started fighting crime. He didn't know the other 30+ people much longer than Talia.

No I just don't agree that a minor thing like serum for your knee creates a parallel to a character who is in constant pain without a morphine mask.

wasn't she the only one who had similar ideals as him as far as the clean energy project goes?
