Good.

Theft should be prosecuted.

I download a movie here and there. Like 3 or 4 a year. I will just stream them online instead of downloading now and will do it with a proxy as usual.

I do not agree with enforcing a law just based on what your search history shows.

The artists will do fine.

It's the guy pushing the CD's that will have to downgrade to a slightly smaller jet.

The business of selling physical copies of a musicians work is dead. They need to come up with a new model if they want to continue doing business.

as for DRM, how many times do you really copy your music?

thats complete crap. its none of your business.

personally, i prefer to rip my CDs as lossless FLAC format and do WHATEVER THE HELL I WANT WITH THEM.

thats why i use transcopy for the ipod. you can copy music on and off *gasp* without ever having to deal with or consider the shite that is DRM.

DRM = STEAMING PILE OF shite.

Just because you enjoy eating shite, doesn't mean the rest of us do.

I'll take my free-and-clear FLAC encoded music and I'll do whatever the frick i want with it.

According to Nielsen Soundscan, which tracks sales, 4.98 million albums were sold in the week ending May 30, possibly the lowest figure since the early 1970s. By comparison, the record one-week tally set in December 2000 was 45.4 million.

But the music industry is so slow to adapt they are still fighting trying to sell physical properties.

yea explain that to the cops when they arrest you for whistling a metallica song since you're stealing their intellectual property

If I hadnt illegally downloaded a lot of music, I wouldnt know about these bands and would never have bought tix to their shows. Musicians make way more money from concerts than off CD's.

How is concert revenue doing? I'd imagine it's doing well and it's BECAUSE of piracy

A few smarter bands actually give their music away free for this very reason. They have learned and adapted.

Another noteworthy study from three years back notes that virtually every citizen violates intellectual property laws in some way on a daily basis.

Well...when you are dealing with intellectual property thats fricking theft in my book.

Kafka says music artists are overpaid, anyway.

Who cares if they have to pay back the advance on their album. They need to stop being so fricking stingy and just keep coming out of the pocket for production fees so we can enjoy the fruits of their labor.

It's not like those indie artists are going to miss that $4 per CD. They'll just have to find other ways to recoup.

exactly. more and more artists are coming around. They realize piracy is helping them bring people to their shows

Another thing, if the movie industry would offer a digital copy that allows one time viewing controlled on their website for a fee that would release the same day a movie opens in theaters they would recoup a lot of revenue they lose on piracy. There are movies I am willing to go to a theater for and others I want to see but not willing to go watch. I would gladly pay for those to view at home.

ITS NOT frickING PIRACY

this is the equivalent to saying all auditory recording must be prohibited.

think about it for a second.

where was obama in 1972 when i was recording pink floyd off fm102 on my kmart tape recorder?

give me a break you holier-than-thou dumbasses.

eta: not directed at your pilot, but rather at those in this thread that think listening to music from a tape or cd you didnt 'buy' is piracy.

youtube..with the help of 'audio sniffing' tools built by our lovely friends at teh RIAA systematically crawl youtube and delete any video that detects 'copyrighted' music playing.

thats why most youtube vids these days use crap/shite free background music to go along with the vids.

according to afreaux, those heartless pirates who upload youtube with a copyrighted soundtrack have their hands in the back pocket of the poor artists trying to recoup the studio production and marketing costs of their poor recording.

if the law passes you won't.

DRM is just a way to try to stop people from sharing it with everyone. all the free downloads and loss of money caused it so blame those people.

and i agree they will try to keep physical sales going but unless they really revamp and come up with a new configuration it's gone as soon as the older generation quits buying. problem is they lose money on itunes, etc since ppl get to pick the songs they want (and i don't blame them).
