Nymphomaniac Vol. 1 on Netflix (Update: watched Vol. 2) SPOILERS LIKELY

Very very different kind of movie with some amazing performances. Uma Thermon stole this one despite her short on screen time IMO. Overall I'm still not sure how I feel about it, but I'll definitely be watching Vol. 2 later today.
Eta: I finished Vol. 2 about an hour ago. Overall I think Vol. 1 was better but I really enjoyed both. I've never gone through shocked, disgusted, and turned on so many times in 4 hours. Hell of an ending too.

Like 60% of the scenes would need pixelation if you caught it on TV. This movie will never be on cable

But look at what they did with Showgirls on TBS. Cut a bunch of scenes and smiley faced pasties errywhere.

I guess it isn't impossible, but Showgirls doesn't come close to this movie.

Holy shite. I just finished Volume 1 & 2...what a roller coaster.
It definitely tight-ropes on explicit for the shock-value but the absolute beauty in the film is the writing and visuals. I cringed during Antichrist...I ached during Melancholia...I was blown away with Nymphomaniac.
It's tumultuous, rebellious and kept me enthralled. It's "out there", for sure, but a well done movie, nonetheless.
I agree with OP that this could never be shown on cable.

Just finished vol 1. Guess I'm not an art house guy, because I thought this movie was terrible. Only part I liked was uma's scene.

I got to see this a long time ago, and I didn't think it was as bad it was going to be. The story kept it within some boundary...and that helped it stay interesting and funny and edgy.
