I wouldn't put Episode III on the original trilogy's level (though I think VI gets more love than it should), but it is far from a horrible movie, and it's clearly better than I or II. I think it's a decent film at worst (I think it's pretty good actually) and I am of the opinion that a prequel trilogy should have started around III, perhaps with the Clone Wars series kicking it off a couple of years before the release.

Sith looked like Empire Strikes Back compared to the previous 2. It still wasnt that great but it had its moments

Absolutely.

Have the Clone Wars ten years in and Anakin as a super force-sensitive 20 something living on a remote planet (not Tatooine) when the War reaches his doorstep.

Episode I would only be the story of Obi-Wan stumbling upon Anakin and realizing his freakish abilities and together (with others) repelling the Clone military (Bad guys).

I think the prequels could have worked in the same timeline they are in now with a decent script and MUCH better actors portraying the focal point of the story...Anakin's rise and fall.

When you dump Jake Lloyd and Hayden Christensen on the audience representing the main arc of the three movies...Im not sure he could have picked much worse. The rest of the cast was pretty good IMO but those two just ruined the prequels singlehandedly IMO. I openly laughed at how terrible Hayden was when I first watched II and III in the theaters.

There was no need to see Anakin as a little kid. They should have started the prequel trilogy with Anakin being in his late teens/early 20's or whatever works as far as the timeline goes (but have him as old as possible). That's part of why I liked TFA so much, because Ren was basically the version of Anakin we should have seen in the prequels.

And as for the scene in the OP, that is a decent scene that looks better than it is because of the pile of shite that came before it (first 2 prequels) and the pile of mediocrity that surrounded it (the rest of ROTS). It's ironically one of Lucas' best moments from the prequel trilogy precisely because it's so non-Lucas...hell, I'm surprised he allowed a scene with no dialogue into the movie.

I like Revenge of the Sith quite a bit. It's miles better than Ep 1 and 2. But 7 is still the better movie.

There is so much going on there. I agree it is a very beautiful scene.

I agree to an extent. The dialogue was absolutely awful in particular in Episode 2 and 3. I thought Jake Lloyd was fine. He wasn't really a focal point of Episode 1. Hayden looked the part, but I did not like his portrayal at all. I am not sure if it's the acting so much as the direction of the character. He comes across as too annoying, whiny, and moody. He's a far more likable character in TCW.

The high ground concept was stupid, but that encounter between Annakin and Obi Wan is among my favorite of the entire series. "I have failed you" is my favorite line of the entire series.

I agree somewhat. I think TPM and AotC should have basically been 1 movie. I like the idea of TPM with how they find Anakin. Showing him like that really brings the magnitude of his fall and also the true power and key to his redemption. The problem is an entire movie around that is just a waste.

Agreed. That interaction was very well done. Music and delivery was put together wonderfully. That actually part of the battle was stupid. There should have been some other way that Obi Wan defeated Anakin. All Anakin had to do was jump at Obi Wan, so he could still use his saber to block, or just jump anywhere to the side. It was just a lazy way to end an otherwise very well done fight.

I don't usually remark on acting, but Ewan McGregor in that scene is really great. At that late date, he was honestly blaming himself for the travesty that had developed. I also love his look and mannerisms when he drops baby Luke off at the very end. The last 30 seconds of III is pure greatness.

Very much agree. There are so many things that really done so well in III. It makes it that much more of a head-scratcher on the parts that were so painfully bad.

I think the final lesson is that when someone truly has control of a project, very little can be done to even just provide critical feedback. Imagine if Christopher Nolan had just had veto power over any particular decision of George Lucas in the making of the prequels.

Watching that flashback video only makes me wonder more why everyone hates the prequels. I thoroughly enjoyed ever Star Wars movie and I kind of feel bad for the people who are so wrapped up in geekdom that they can't appreciate them.

No one can accuse me of heaping any sort of praise on the "prequels." McGregor is the only bright spot in any of the 3 films for me.

Bc with a little effort they could've have been really good. I believe the acting was so bad due to the actors performing in front of a green screen. It affected all of them, and made all of them wooden. These are not all bad actors.

The other issue is the dialogue. Just awful writing.

The story lines could have been better and all that. But if Lucas had simply wrote better dialogue and not gotten so carried away with his CGI universe which made everything look artificial and affected the acting, they would've been good.

I don't think that it was.

It symbolized Anakin's immaturity and his false perception of his own power
