The Omen probably scored low on heart rate, but plenty of people say it's scary.
The sequel gave Steve Harris (Iron Maiden) a nightmare that became the title track of The Number of the Beast.
True story.

I have never been close to as scared in the theater as I was for this.
I am a huge pussy, but still watch scary movies in theaters all the time. This was the apex of my fear response. I was about to hyperventilate

The Ring/Grudge for me.
Have a good Ring story that I know of second hand.
A bunch of friends of mine (before I knew them) stayed at one of their houses and watched the Ring in middle school. His dad snuck around the house that night and put all the TVs on static channels then blasted the volume on one of them to wake them all up.
Said they were all screaming and holding onto each other and ran into the parents' room

That's great

Maybe I'm alone here but I thought It Follows was not scary at all. I am a big horror movie buff and could barely finish it. I know it gets a lot of love on here.

The Babadook
Feel asleep. And for the parts I was awake for, I was hoping the monster gutted that annoying arse kid and his mother.
Also.
Cheap arse jump scare films should be stricken from the count.

Insidious fricked me up the first time I saw it

Kind of surprised Silent Hill isn’t on there. That movie creeped me the frick out

I’ve always been a fan of the 80s gore movies. The 1988 remake of the blob scares the piss out of me as a kid I had nightmares about that movie

don't know that heartrate = scared. Someone being startled will have a heartrate spike and a lot of these movies rely on surprise and cranking the volume real loud for a split second (a/k/a jumpscares).
This is true. Great horror films have to keep you on edge the whole time and create suspense.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre makes people feel icky and scared and it's 35 years old with 35 years of movies mimicking the icky, scary doom of TCM. imagine seeing that fricker in 1974 when people weren't used to those sorts of atmospheres in movies
Most scared I’ve ever been was as a kid walked through a legit haunted house in a mall in Florida. It was creepy enough but at the end a guy jumps out of the shadows right behind and chases you with a running chainsaw. I was 5-6 years old and I think it almost killed me. Probably the only traumatic thing in my childhood. I’m terrified of chainsaws to this day and won’t hardly use one

You aren't, although you and I are pretty alone on that.
It Follows is one of the most overrated movies I've ever seen. All I heard about was how amazing it was, so I was pretty let down once I finally watched it.
It's decent, sure, maybe even pretty good. But people acted like it was some masterpiece and I just don't get it.

If they missed The Strangers, they missed number one. I’ve never been so scared in a movie theater.
