New Shane Gillis Stand-Up Special Available on YouTube

For those not familiar with him, he was the guy fired / cancelled from SNL a day after he was announced to be part of the new cast for 2019 (I think?) because he made some non-PC jokes on a podcast years back.
I haven't seen much of his previous standup but enjoy his Gillis and Keeves sketches. This guy is a rising star in the stand-up scene. This may be the best special I've seen since Chappelle's "Stick's and Stone's." If not, it's in the top 5.
Give it a watch: Youtube

Really all SNL is these days are a bunch of kids of rich parents who bought their kids way into Ivy League and then they just are given a role on SNL. Shane actually dodged a bullet by getting canned from SNL, plus I highly suspect he would not get along with the cast, particularly Bowen Yang (who openly hates him) and Aidy Bryant.
Save for Kate McKinnon, none of the people currently on the cast will do anything bigger or better and this is the peak of their career. Shane’s just getting started though.

I think you are right. The sad thing is, SNL needs people like Shane to stay relevant in the comedy scene. They are just too dumb to not understand that. I actually don't think Kate Mckinnon will go on to do much more than SNL. I feel like that would have already happened by now if it was going to happen at all.
Shane's on a good trajectory right now and if he plays his cards right, he'll be one of the big names in comedy within 5 years. He's got that Louise C.K. type of humor and delivery, but he's not imitating him at all.

Kate has been doing pretty well on the big screen. Plus I think Kate is an actual great actress and can do roles outside of comedy. I could see Cecily Strong getting some supporting roles and maybe Beck Bennett could go the Chris Parnell route, but I think the rest of them are fricked.

That’s because SNL has turned into church for the Woke, and just bring in a different minister each week. Honestly, these should be the stars of SNL right now if they wanted to be actually funny:
Tim Dillon
Shane Gillis
John McKeever
Kyle Dunnigan
Ryan Long
Nikki Glasser
Bridget Phetesy
JP Spears
Dave Smith
June Lapine
Kyla Fox

Right. What people forget is that comedy, when it's REALLY good, is actually taking on the powerful and thumbing your nose at them. Taking them down a peg or two. That's what makes really good comedy feel "dangerous" in a way...like, "Oh shite...they shouldn't be saying that." That used to be the left as the counter culture and the old tired right as the punching bag.
The problem is the left is now, unquestionably, THE MAN. And since virtually everyone in entertainment is also on the left (or has to pretend to be in order to stay employed) they have no interest in poking fun of themselves. I'm not sure I've ever seen a segment of society ever be quite as self righteous as the current woke left, and they have zero ability to take a joke at their expense.
There's a ton of stuff to make fun of right now, and having a POTUS like we do would be ripe for satire if SNL was up to it. They're just not. It's why it's left to people like Ryan Long on YouTube. All of these could be SNL shorts if they were open to going after the left as much as they are the right.

I'm almost 20 minutes into this, and he's focused solely on race and it's not terribly funny at all. Does it get better? I think I've seen clips of him before that I thought were pretty funny, but this one just seems like he's trying super hard to pander to both sides, especially the left (it's very political so far as well).

What little I've seen OG Gillis' stand up, he's not that great.

It gets really good. The joke about his sister is a fricking rollercoaster (or water slide). Also, a really good bit about the special olympics. I thought it was one of the better specials I’ve seen in a while. Up there with Mark Normand’s Out to Lunch and Brenden Eyre’s Desiree.

It wouldn’t surprise me if Bowen Yang was the one who dug up his Chinatown remarks when it was announced Shane would be joining the SNL cast.
Bowen Yang is the first Asian cast member on the show, and quite possibly one of the worst cast members ever. There are plenty of funny Asians out there, yet they chose this loser as their first?

Melissa Villasenor could do incredible voice work. Her impressions are mind blowing.

Saw him do stand up in Lafayette a few months back. Dude is hysterical. Afterwords he was just hanging out at the hotel bar drinking with everyone
