I honestly don't think they expect this to do well. Fox just doesn't want to lose the rights to FF.

I'm gonna go old. I'm the guy who thinks DC missed the boat by not casting Jon Hamm as Superman.

Reed Richards - George Clooney
Sue Storm - Charlize Theron
Johnny Storm - Chris Pine
Ben Grimm - voice of Bruce Willis

WTF can it possibly be based on, then? The recent films? A poster? The words "Fantastic Four"?

Unbelieveable that one of the finest superhero teams - and really the most solid, family-oriented team, gets this treatment.

New Fantastic Four not based on comics

This does not bother me at all. If it is a good movie then it is a good movie. It not, then it's not. I don't need it to be something ripped from the comics for it to be a good entertaining movie.

I don't think it needs to necessarily be "ripped" from the comics, but it sounds like they're completely disregarding the comics.

You have to show at least some respect to the history of the characters.

ETA: Good God. Could you imagine if it got out that Zach Snyder told Henry Cavill not to read any Superman comics?

except would it be a good FANTASTIC FOUR movie or just a good movie? This movie is titled Fantastic Four and has expectations behind it. If you want to ignore that, why make it a fantastic four movie then?

The simple fact that the storms are brother and sister and we went the PC route guaranteed this movie will be a dumpster fire. I don't care if they are both black or they are both pink, but they are fricking brother and sister make them the same damn race. No amount of explanation will fix the casting. Won't see and will love watching this lose 50 or 60 million.

How many superhero movies, outside of the origin story, actually use stories from the comics? One of the odd things about the X-Men is that it is one of the few comic properties to admit that the source was well-written. They just adapt Chris Claremont stories. Other comics? Well, they keep the origin, but after that... they seem to just tell whatever story they want.

Deviating from the comics is pretty much the Standard Operating Procedure.

There's a difference between not using a comic book story and completely disregarding the comics altogether.

True. I think this movie is going to suck, too. But telling your own story is hardly a cause for alarm as no one uses the comic stories, unless it was written by Claremont (or was an origin story).

No, it doesn't have to be ripped from the comics to be good, but it should have at least some relationship to the comics beyond the characters names and the title.

Why even call it Fantastic Four? Why not just make Chronicle 2?

Considering Man of Steel, I don't think Goyer read the source material either.

Maybe, but could imagine if it actually went public like this? He'd be burned at the stake.

For Supes... yes deservedly so. For F4, I mean it's a deal, maybe not a big one though. They are like Wonder Woman, a bit past their prime. Messing with them a bunch isn't really risky.

Why does it have to be a story that was already done in the comics ? Why can't it be a new story and still be the FF4 ?

Exactly.

This is the superhero movie shark jump we're experiencing, and it's about time. The "reboots" (basically, recycling the same crap on a more frequent schedule than before) are the beginning of the end.

It keeps working, so I can't blame them, but the life will be completely wrung out of the genre very soon.
