Elvis - That’s the Way It Is.

Concert documentary about the King’s first Vegas residency at the old International Hotel (now the Westgate) back in 1969. It doesn’t get much better.

I owned this on DVD for years and I loaned it to someone never to be seen again. Blind Melon were a great band. It's cool seeing this documentary remastered.

I watched Echo in the Canyon a couple of years ago and enjoyed it.

I plan on watching a few of these soon:

Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage
Gordon Lightfoot: If You Could Read My Mind
Nothing But a Good Time
Fleetwood Mac: Making of Rumours
Music Box: Kenny G

In short. Sound City was a legendary studio in LA that had this unique Neve analog board that Dave Grohl purchased after the studio closed shop. Grohl explores the history of the board and all the iconic music that has come from it.

Sound City Studios is located in the San Fernando Valley, amidst rows of industrial warehouses. The little-known recording studio housed a rare analog Neve recording console and had a reputation for recording drums. Artists such as Nirvana, Kyuss, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Fleetwood Mac, Neil Young, Rick Springfield, Tom Petty, Rage Against the Machine, and Slipknot recorded groundbreaking music at the studio. In 1991 Nirvana recorded the album Nevermind at Sound City Studios. This was one of many platinum albums that came out of the studio, placing Sound City among the most well-known names and record labels in the music industry.
Sound City played an important role in the history of Fleetwood Mac. After hearing a recording of Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham made at Sound City, Mick Fleetwood asked Buckingham if he would join, to which he agreed so long as Nicks was invited in as well.
This was a fun watch recently. Covers a lot of what most people already know about the 80s hair metal scene but it has some really funny stories I hadn’t heard thrown in. L.A. in the 80s on the sunset strip must’ve just been a different level of insane and fun.
And then you can follow that up with
Doc on the Pacific Northwest and grunge scene that came to be.

Searching for Sugar Man is probably my favorite. Story is almost hard to believe it's true.

Some others not on your list...

It Might Get Loud. Follows some all time guitarist, Jimmy Paige, Jack White, and the Edge. Get a different perspective from three different guitarist. I was never a big U2 guy and this kind of reinforced that because it showed what a doofus the Edge is compared to the other two guys.

Marley. You get interviews with most of the surviving family members. Just a nice deep dive if you like Bob Marley.

May At Last: A Portrait of the Avett Brothers. If you like the Avett Bros this is a must watch. These dudes are so freaking talented. Behind the scenes of making one of their albums and just insight on their backstory.

Remastered: The Two Killings of Sam Cooke. Not your typical music documentary because this is more investigative. Kind of a tragic story. One of the greatest voices to ever sing a tune.

There was a better Laurel Canyon doc that came out around the same time. I think it was on EPIX.

Festival Express

"This compilation of footage from the Grateful Dead's Canadian train tour depicts the height of the band's music and fame for five days in 1970, along with that of performances from Janis Joplin, Buddy Guy, The Band and The Flying Burrito Brothers. However, there's also a dark side shown alongside the seminal concerts, as when the train stops, the musicians are often confronted with worried promoters, inquisitive reporters and protesting students who can't afford ticket prices."

I watched the Yacht Rock doc last night. Kind of feel the exact way you did. Wasn’t overly great but interesting.

I should’ve kept a lot of all of the songs played during the show and could have a solid playlist.

Might want to add Don't Look Back and Rolling Thunder Revue to the list.

Might want to give a short synopsis and let people know what they’re about, as requested in the OP.
