I agree. The visuals were especially awesome. But when the monster dude showed up, I went "What the frick is this."

Sunshine pissed me off cause I started watching it one night at like 3am. It really caught my attention and then it went to total shite.

Lacour

I think most people hate War Of The Worlds for the ridiculous disneyfied ending. Oh and the Cruise haters hate it on general principle.

Overall I like it all the way until the ending. Same can be said for Signs.

Wow, this was exactly, to the word, my thought while watching sunshine. The scifi in the first part of that movie was so inspired. If only it hadn't turned into a cliched thriller. I thought the more recent movie Moon lost energy in a similar way too, but at least the twists and action there weren't as over the top as Sunshine.

Doesn't really gel with the OP

but were given to shitty directors and thus sucked...

Sunshine's faults, although ultimately at the feet of Boyle, weren't because he is a shitty director.

True. The script sucked in the end.

I'm thinking more along the lines of projects that sounded good and were given to directors with shitty track records.

The Box

I thought at one point Spielberg was involved or something.

Watchmen, not necessarily great, but again, Aronofsky was at the helm for a brief moment.

The Star Wars prequels. It is really sad when someone can soil their own labor of love. You would think the guy who originated the franchise would pay the most respect to it but Lucas' lack of basic filmmaking skills and principles become apparent and really proves that Lawrence Kasdan (for the most part) was the real genius behind Star Wars all along.

Snyder >>>>> Aronofsky

I think Darren is way overrated and Snyder way underrated.

I'd say they are about equal at what they do. I like Snyder, I should have also said, "Not that Snyder is a shitty director,"

quote:

think Darren is way overrated and Snyder way underrated.

Again, I think Aronofsky is about where he should be. He hasn't made his break out film yet.

Snyder, he has a great visual eye, and is obviously somewhat of a nerd. He needs to just make that "great" film.

I enjoyed Watchmen, but that property felt more like Aronofsky territory. Snyder would have been another good choice to do the Avenger movie.

Under the OP terms:

All the Kings Men-a mess for all sorts of reasons but the a river of blood on the state seal...seriously?

Troy-I didn't care all that much about Wolfgang Peterson before this movie...after it, frick that a-hole...remains the only movie I ever walked out of the theater on.

Pretty much every movie directed by Chris Columbus outside of the original Home Alone. Potter Movies are not exactly great but how much better are all the movies since the third movie in comparison to the Columbus entries? Along with Robin Williams, he also butchered Bicentennial Man.

Going old school--Breakfast At Tiffany's. Iconic performance by Audrey Hepburn that could have been so much better in a film minus to completely bogus happy ending (nether Capote's or Hepburn's Holly Golightly is going to end up in that alley looking for the cat or Paul for that matter. It just isn't in the character) and, even before getting into the political correctness argument, Mickey Rooney's performance is both distracting, pointless, and not funny.

The Godzilla movie with Matthew Broderick had so much promise...I remember thinking "that's going to be awesome with the new technology...then t-rex showed up instead of Godzilla.

I take pride in being one of three people that loved this movie.

It was weird as hell and didn't explain itself which is what I liked.

Not sure any director could have made that movie work for the masses.

In The Mouth of Madness had potential to be an epic Lovecraftian film but Carpenter fricked it up.
