My roku controller broke so I've been SOL for movies lately- went to the library to pick up some entertainment.

My haul:
south park season 19
Ash vs the evil dead
Silicon valley season 2
Everybody wants some
Swiss army man
Mad max fury road
Akira
The Night Manager
Fast and Furious 6

Crazy the selection of new release movies and series they have compared to like ten years ago.

Went to a local library not too long ago to get a passport application sent and was surprised by this as well. Smart move by them.

The library has multiple copies of every movie that comes out, including New movies and TV on blu ray and DVD.

If you don't see it immediately, ask to be put on the hold list, and they will notify you when it comes in.

They should be considering the absurd $40 million budget

Just make sure you turn them in on time or renew them...late fee is $1 a day (at least in BR).

Glad you are happy your tax dollars go to "educational" dvds like South Park.

Question. How is file sharing bad but libraries renting out movies okay?

Or renting from Redbox? I'm guessing they have some kind of deal in place. Never really thought about how that relationship works.

Because libraries and Red Box outlets are at least purchasing physical copies of the dvd (same as your local video store used to do).

With file sharing, people are not necessarily purchasing physical copies before sharing.

Don't forget to check out your favorite PS4 and Xbox One video games while you're at your local library branch!

It is surprising these days at some of the donations.

You can see DVDs that came out in theaters 6 months earlier.

Used to be...

Old Yeller, the Miracle Worker, Redwoods of California and the Anne of Green Gables series.

Now you get stuff from last year...recent action, horror, etc.

Those aren't donations. The library buys new releases as soon as they become available, and it's always expanding its collection of older movies.
