Forgot to add; There Will be Blood. Don't care how good of an actor Lewis is, this movie just doesn't get me interested and I've tried watching it a couple times. Gangs of New York with an honorable mention. Doesn't do much for me either.

This is probably the best answer

The robbery planning scenes, the robbery/ shootout scenes, and the home life of characters played by Val Kilmer and Ashley Judd, are the good parts of Heat.

The gf and step daughter of Al Pacino's character are very annoying and are caricatures of every cops life in modern media . Robert De Niro's character and his love interest are outright boring. They spend way too much time on these relationships.

For a movie that was hyped for the two of them being in it, neither De Niro or Pacino's characters seemed like cool guys. Am I the only person that didn't care about either of the two stars characters? Did you care about who got killed at the end?

This is the worst side story because it adds nothing. At least DeNiro's side love story gives you depth to his character and provides an arc to the story, a side path not disconnected like Pacino's paint by the numbers filler cliche personal life side story....

....a.fricked up marriage and Daddy issues daughter....

...adds nothing but letting the audience know the writers were lazy and didn't know what to do with Pacino's character.

I think most people that think more highly of these movies, than those that don't, see them from the context of what came before them. Some may be older people, like myself, that saw some of them in the theater. Others may just be people who have watched lots of older movies, and have an understanding of their place in the history of movies.
I'm not telling you I get something, and you don't. Just trying to explain why some movies may rank higher for some viewers.

Who was really good?

Certainly not Pacino. He was almost terrible in this.

I want to say that Siskel or Ebert made the joke that, if they could have, they would have rated it as such.

The movie isn’t highly regarded by anyone AFAIK but the book is great.

Two off the top of my head: A Ghost Story and The Witch.
Both had fairly high ratings for horror films so i was ready but
man both were boring and not very good to be honest.

Agree, if you don’t like It’s A Wonderful Life, then there is something dark going on in your soul. It is perfect imo.

Lots of people who were kids in the 80's love less than zero. It's up there with the John Hughes movies with most of them. Before I ever saw it, a guy told me it was his favorite movie, so I watched it. It lowered my opinion of him.

That is a new one on me.

I know the book is extremely good but the movie is shite despite having RDJ and James Spader in it.

As several have mentioned Forest Gump

12 Angry Men was not compelling either.

Here’s one that fits the category for me, meaning that I think it’s a good movie, but is still overrated. It might be because I don’t think it has held up overtime. But other Bogart films have held up over time and I love them.

The movie I talking about is The Maltese Falcon.

Um, well, there’s this western that’s, you know, kinda revered as an all time great, and all that, but…… well it’s just not that good IMO. It’s….

The Magnificent Seven!
