That actor made the season for me. So creepy.

He and the banter between Holden and Bill absolutely made the show. I finally got around to finishing it up tonight. Reminded me a lot of True Detective season one with the tone and relationship between the two partners. I hope this is able to keep it up in future seasons.

This is the explanation on the tuna can:

Guess my theory was a bit off. I was thinking it was symbolism for the way Holden was "baiting" the killers to talk to him like putting out a can of tuna for a cat. But eventually it would cause chaos that they were not prepared for.

The 1st episode

When he says "I can see your naked. I can also see you're cold."

Was that a tactic? Thats some way out shite to say to someone. Was it just him saying "Hey Psycho. pull your pants up or was it some tactic to mess with his head?

He didn't seem nervous. He seemed pretty under control. Like when he waived off the bullhorn then he explained in class why they don't use one.

FFS, this is a guy who doesn't consistently filter his thoughts, and he's in an adrenaline-producing situation.

ETA: I'm sure they're taught to look for ways unique to the situation to verbally disarm the hostage taker and establish rapport, and calling attention to his nakedness served to distract and bring the guy a little bit outside of his current situation while establishing a foothold of control. That's what he'll write later in his books. That said, I suspect the genesis of the thought was the effect of cold on the male anatomy, hence my comment about it being a "nervous joke," albeit a potentially useful one.

We must be watching a different show. This gu is as calculated as it comes.

Just finished S1 last night after a binge this week:

Thought it was great overall.

The dialogue between Holden and Tench is really good - almost Mad Men-esque in that they always have a lot of embedded assumptions in what they say that aren't necessarily obvious.

Thought it was interesting that they depicted very little (if any) conflict b/w the local cops and the FBI. The most common trope in all movies and TV is to show a very combative turf war. But here, the cops seemed legit in awe of the FBI guys (probably due at least in part to being based on an FBI book.) And the main time there was discord, it was over the death penalty with the DA and not with the cops.

Profiling and "behavioral science" has become so mainstream for so long, I often had a hard time processing the entire concept behind the show: that at one time, this was completely novel and viewed as voodoo bullshite.

I absolutely loved the time period setting. His blue Nova was incredible. (Seemed like his suit was too modern, though.)

My favorite scene was his final interview with the OPR guys. Definite gut punch to know Tench sort of sold him out.

Looking forward to S2, which I believe is going to be about the "Atlanta Monster".
