This is true. You never see them in love. When the movie begins, he already wants out of the relationship. They never really elaborate as to why. She obviously has anxiety issues because they show her taking Ativan even before her family dies.

Just got out. I enjoyed it, but it wasn’t scary at all.

I think my entire theater hated it and multiple people walked out in the middle of it

This movie was interesting...

Beautiful to look at. Sound was fantastic. Not sure if there was a lot of substance here.

That’s the only words needed to describe this film. It was disturbing and revolting. I left the theatre in physical discomfort due to the level of disturbance and revolt generated by this film. It was supposed to maybe be a horror movie but the only horrifying aspect was that someone actually thought that would be a decent storyline. One of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. Complete and total waste of $10.50 and about 2 hours of my life.

Interesting comment considering I feel like if someone paid Micheal Bay for his take on The Lottery, this would be it. It alternates between just being awkward and way too over the top. You could see the plot coming from a mile away and it wasn’t interesting or well written. The foreshadowing, humor, and gore was just cringeworthy. Most stuff is just thrown in for shock value with only a loose connection to what’s happening. Had some beautiful shots but even that was ruined by the director playing film school badass with some of the angles and camera tricks. Legitimately one of the first movies I’ve considered walking out on, and had I known my girlfriend felt the same we actually would have. It was just two hours of nails on a chalkboard, but I guess if that’s your thing you loved it.

Much like Hereditary, most people I know who've seen it either loved it or hated it. The slow build up bored some people. I thought that the Attestupa ritual sequence, although very bloody, was one of the best parts of the movie. You knew that something very bad was going to happen, but you weren't exactly sure what.

I felt like it was extremely obvious what was going to happen, almost too many context clues if that makes sense. By the time they showed the huge cliff it was a given they were gonna jump.

I understand that kind of slow burn is some people's cup of tea, so I see what you're saying. That scene and the build to it was like a train wreck in slow motion. I just couldn't get into it.

I thought it wasn’t as good (relatively speaking) as Hereditary. The girl being the winner was predictable. The guy being chosen to die sucked. I know what the director said and all of that but it just showed me that people are more reactive and let their emotions get the best of them. The movie lacked empathy and a hero, I’d give it a 3 out of 10 just because the set and costumes were cool.

It was ok. Very predictable. I just didn't buy the girl turning bad. I saw nothing that would make me believe she'd be ok with her boyfriend and others being burnt to crisp.

If those guys had been studying STEM disciplines instead of anthropology, they’d still be alive.

Watched yesterday evening. I dug it, but as other have said, too many similarities to wicker man for me to fully appreciate it. If I had never seen wicker man, I think this movie would’ve left a larger impact on me. Still really solid though.

I thought the opening of the movie, before they flew to Sweden, was absolutely incredible. I think that’s what stuck with me most. It was just brutal.

Agreed.

That murder suicide scene was extremely disturbing and the opening music to go along with it.

Much like Michael Bay has splosions just for the sake of splosions, this movie had gross just for the sake of disgust.

It was extremely predictable the entire way through and just disgusting for the sole purpose of shock value. There were some beautiful shots and some artsy cinematography.

I disagree. By and large, it wasn't a gory movie. Like Hereditary, there is one very bloody scene, but that's pretty much it. Everything else is implied or occurs off screen.

Now, if you're referring to the fertility ritual with the naked old ladies.....

The movie was filmed the way it was to make the viewer uncomfortable and disoriented. It wasnt just to be artsy.

They didn’t have to have as much gore in that one scene but I also wouldn’t fault them for including it. I think he included it to help illustrate how mentally scaring it was for dani to see that.

Just saw this last night. This was movie was bad. Very bad. No dread, no scare, no horror. It was as long as End Game without anything really happening. That movie could have EASILY been 90min.

It has been a long time since I've seen a movie where the entire theater immediately shits on it when it ends. Not sure what was really enjoyable about it.

Hereditary has amazing shot selections and set ups. this did not. a lot of the set ups were distant with ADR work. The lighting was horrible throughout. just nothing really redeeming about it. I guess tits?
