It’s a poor choice. Tubbs’ look is part of his character, specifically being able to pass as non American when he’s undercover. Whoever cast him just sees the character as “monolithic black guy”.

You don't think Michael B. Jordan can pass as an Afro-Caribbean? I think he could manage that pretty easily.

Nah, he won’t be asked to either. He’ll be more like the 06 version than the OG. It’s just not the same character which is fine if he can make something great out of it.

All depends on the script. Honestly, both Jordan and Powell are lukewarm casting, at best.

I actually kinda liked the last reboot.

Good point.

Chris Pine would have been a better choice.
Definitely but he's an elite actor.
What? Since when is Chris Pine elite? Based on what?
Also, Powell and MBJ are not "luke warm castings" by any stretch. Both have major hits under their belt, and a big arse following of women. You can think they arent great actors, but it's erroneous to say they arent big stars.
They are casting Miami Vice, not Othello.

quote:I like Chris Pine, but he's too old now to play Crockett. Hard to imagine Glenn Powell in the role either - comes off as too snarky for Sonny Crockett, who was a pretty serious character in the first season or two. I'd pick Austin Butler instead, though he might be too tall. I'd also like Aaron Pierre for Tubbs, he's got an "exotic" look like PMT had, and MBJ doesn't.
Chris Pine would have been a better choice.

Someone else said Gosling and he plays burned out very well. He might even be too old now too.

I said "lukewarm casting" because it's true. Neither of these guys have any sort of Miami Vice charisma. Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas had swag, or rizz, as the kids say today. Powell and MBJ are cookie cutter bland.

Man, not another reboot of a classic IP. How underwhelming and predictable... AI might be the only thing to save Hollywood.
For the record, the previous movie was fantastic and checked all of the boxes required for a 'Miami Vice' movie. The reference to Sal Magluta was awesome - the original 'Cocaine Cowboy'.

Please keep John Leguizamo far, far away from this movie.
