Started a rewatch this weekend. I loved this show when I was younger. The plots and writing are still decent. I guess I was blissfully ignorant of the acting being that bad. Got through the first 4 episodes of the first season and its damn near a competition at whose the worst although Tubbs is leading the pack. Al Bundy has been the best actor so far!

Still love the music and that Ferrari though.

The acting gets better. They exchange the Ferrari kit car in season one for a real Ferrari later on.

The first episode was good, especially the In The Air Tonight scene.

I still like the 2006 film way way better than the series, but it can't be argued what Michael Mann did for television production and style.

He also defined the look feel and reputation of an entire city.

I liked the episode with Bruce Willis as the wife-beating arms dealer.

watched this one not too long ago. Joey B looks a lot like young Willis.

It hasn't aged all that well (and how could it?), but that is part of its charm. It is irretrievably anchored in time.

I agree with the comments the acting gets better, but I really enjoy the nostalgic rush I get from the early episodes with the kit car "Ferrari."

Man - what a great time to have been a kid.

After the arms dealer blows up the kit car with a stinger.

The first two seasons hold up very well. The third is half decent, when the writers change and the focus of the series shifts is when the quality drops off. I think the nostalgia of the show surpasses that of any tv show out there. Only Gen X eighties kids really get how much of an event Miami Vice was every week.

MV and Dukes of Hazzard. Dukes of Hazzard was my childhood favorite and then came Miami Vice. Opposite ends of the spectrum but man you are right, those shows were a big deal to me.

Been watching MV pretty regularly lately.

What I did not realize is how many stars of the last 15-20 years got their “big break” as a guest on Miami Vice.

Crazy amount of big names.

ETA: I know this is an odd bump. But I just watched the episode with Liam Neeson. Kind of surprised me.

I was always perplexed why Edward James Olmos stared at the ground when he acted in this series.

Then years later I read that him and Don Johnson had a beef and he hated him so much, he wouldn't even look at him while delivering his lines.

Now the show seems a bit strange with the acting.

And the wife was played by the lady who said "I ate all the Frusen Gladje" in one of those Haagen-Daz ripoff ice cream brand commercials.

WFSB Throwback Thursday Commercials (go to about 27 seconds in)

Man, I'm dating myself.

And what about the episode with Miles Davis?

Here’s an interview with Olmos where he explains why he didn’t look at Crockett or Tubbs.
