Mel Gibson could smack a Rabbi in the face with a pork chop at a Bar Mitzvah, and a talent agency will still represent him the next day.

There's simply too much money to be made for everyone to turn their back on him.

I dislike few people on this earth more than Sean Penn but I still watch his movies if I feel they will be good.

What a bad comparison. I assume you dislike Sean Penn because of his political ideology. Is this the same as (allegedly) repeatedly physically and verbally abusing someone?

And to chime in on the broader question, I think the future of his career is still in question. It depends on how all this plays out and how he chooses to handle it. I will say that the public's memory tends to be short and that people are usually swayed by good entertainment no matter who puts it out there.

I did finally listen to some of his rant and that dude has some serious rage. I wouldn't be shocked to see him go OJ at some point. He didn't just sound pissed. He sounded unhinged.
