Mediocre/bad movies that feature an excellent sequence or scene

Harley Davidson and Marlboro Man opening.

Some may say this is a great guilty pleasure movie (and I may even agree with them) but the movie is openly hated by both leads (Rourke and Johnson) and reviled by critics, but the opening title sequence is actually pretty great filmmaking.

Won't embed due to one second of one scene, but see full clip below.

The opening credits of X-Men Origins Wolverine were great.

Showing them in all the various wars in US history with some decent blend transitions between each one

I always liked the sequence of Ivy in the woods in “The Village”

Great one. I still kind of like that movie, even though I know it’s shite

Is it shite? Hmm. I liked it.

The answer is the Thunderstruck scene and final battle in Battleship

This may upset some folks, but I have always felt Rogue One was mediocre (not bad, but not good either, especially considering the cast). *I think Andor the series is FAR better*

But the Vader scene at the end was impressive.

The stabbing scene is also shot extremely well. First and only time I can remember seeing one shot such a way, where you don't see the knife going in only coming out.

Batman v Superman has several awesome scenes. The pacing of the film is just the big issue

Rogue One is infinitely better in a rewatch once Andor is in your head.

Love that movie.

Love the team of Johnson and Rourke.

Better to be dead and cool than alive and uncool

Didn't think youtube allowed nudity.

Think I might try to watch it today.

In serious, I tried to make this thread a few years ago LINK

My submissions in that OP:

quote:

13th Warrier: Lo, there do I see my father

I watched this entire movie last night just for that scene. You have to watch the full scene from Ahmed starting to pray until the chant to really get the feeling of the scene.

quote:

Merciful Father, I have squandered my days with plans of many things. This was not among them. But at this moment, I beg only to live the next few minutes well.

quote:

Lo, there do I see my father.
Lo, there do I see my mother.
And my sisters and my brothers
Lo, there do I see the line of my people
Back to the beginning.
Lo, they do call to me.
They bid me take my place among them
In the halls of Valhalla
Where the brave may live forever.

Street Fighter: It was...Tuesday

This has become somewhat of an internet meme over the years but it still stands up. shite movie for sure, but this is probably the best performance of any actor in any scene that will be discussed in this thread. Raul Julia BRINGS it.

Other popular scenes I saw after looking online are Duel of the Fates from Phantom Menace and the opening to the Batman-Superman movie (which I still have yet to see).

Also, recently posted on the board: Surviving the Game

quote:

This is one of those movies that is meh/bad but has one performance in one scene that is apex

you are 100% correct. Rogue One gets such high praise because of how shitty the rest of Disney Star Wars is. But it is an ok movie. Too much focus on woman boss, even though they reduced it from the original previews of the movie.

i dont think it's shite. i liked it from the get-go, even though everyone claimed it was bad. literally no idea why people hated it other than the mishandling of Deadpool. legit good comic movie.

In 2016, it was middle of the pack of the existing SW films. The thermonuclear shite show that was TLJ & ROS only elevated further it by virtue of going straight to the bottom, raising all films those two burrowed under.

When watched in context of the backstory of Andor, Rogue One can easily take the Bronze.

the follow-on years of Disney and Hollywood in general has done no favors to the girlbossing in Rogue One. but when it came out ten years ago, it wasnt as annoying as it soon became. the character made sense and there were plenty male supporting roles who were strong characters as well, not just chumps for her to put in their place. it's a good movie.

I like Troy but most consider it a bad movie. It had a few great scenes.
