Even if I saw every Star Wars movie and tv show, played with the action figures, built a bunch of the lego sets, played a lot of the video games, read a bunch of the eu, grew up playing with lightsabers in the yard, dressed up as Darth Vader for Halloween, can quote Spaceballs and Fanboys religiously, at the end of the day, it’s still a movie. My expectations are that it will entertain me while I watch it. I would love every Star Wars movie to be a 10/10 masterpiece, but that ain’t been the case since 1997.

It sucks that 2/3 of the prequels were mid-bad movies, and that the one good one is really only so bad it’s good. It sucks that the tv shows are of inconsistent quality. It sucks that Disney decanonized the EU and then made a sequel trilogy with no plan which completely ruined pre-existing characters. It sucks that the best Star Wars we’ve gotten since 1983 is a prestige spy drama prequel to a movie where every character dies. It sucks that Disney has overseen such inconsistent quality that I cannot trust a Star Wars release to be good by default.

However, when a Star Wars movie gets made, if it’s bad, it’s not gonna ruin my life. If it’s good, it’s a good day. If it’s mid, it’s a mid day. If I want to see it, I will, but if I am afraid it will suck, I’ll wait until it’s out on streaming or rent it from the library. If reviews seem positive, I’ll see it in the theater.

I’m not going to make my mind up and tell others how they should think about a movie if I haven’t seen it. That’s just not logical behavior no matter how much I care about an IP.

Glad i was right about this.

Thats why i never get on board with the concern trolls. Early reviews are a lot of grifters trying to draw attention to themselves.

Yeah the masculinity stuff that’s couched as “toxic” by the critics is presented as good in the movie itself.

he does masculine things with no apologies to some of the gen z stupidness he experiences on earth

Hell yeah. I’m excited to see if this can develop some legs and make up for the initial tracking after word of mouth starts going around

Ya the he/him gag was clearly mocking pronoun warriors not endorsing them. Sounds like that general theme continues.

Fantastic. I would probably say he’s my favorite part of the movie, close second is He-Man himself. That’s to be expected but the voice is menacing, can be funny at times, and feels very authentic. He isn’t like a caricature of a bad villain or something like that, he’s also genuinely intimidating.

There are takes on X saying it’s his best performance of his career

I'm not even sure what it's rated, but how is it for a 6 year old boy? My son wants to see it (I've shown him He-Man before), and I let him watch questionable shite sometimes (to the chagrin of his mother ).

I think he’ll love it, you can definitely take him. It’s rated pg-13 but there wasn’t anything too out of bounds for kids.

There was a young boy sitting right behind us and he was laughing and having fun with it.

ETA I’d also say your wife would probably have fun with this too even though it isn’t geared toward them as a franchise. Brought mine and she loved it

I'm going through this Knight's Watch video review, and he really nails the good things and the things that people might complain or nitpick about as well. And explains why they aren't a big deal--I think it's a good watch and seems to be non-spoiler filled

Good news, thanks. I may see about taking him if he still wants to go.

I took him to Project Hail Mary and he loved it. It was PG-13 but there literally isn't anything in it that calls for such a rating IMO. The closest thing is I think someone says "pissed off" and "Oh my God" or something like that, and then two of the astronauts are dead (which you don't even really see much). That's it though, and it was PG-13.

But he's also seen shite like Jurassic Park, The Goonies, several Harry Potters, Ghostbusters, Gremlins, etc. So I assume a He-Man movie should be fine.

Jurassic Park, Gremlins

exactly, those both have more to be concerned about than this does (and still aren't bad). The only thing I can remotely think someone could point out would be the design of Skeletor as he's scary looking, but they'll be fine

Fair point, but he has seen the trailer several times already and has seen the OG series so he knows that Skeletor is a skeleton-faced dude. So I think he'd be fine.
