Mark Hamill on Friday shared a thank-you letter he penned to Star Wars fans that he called "A few thoughts as one era ends and another begins...."

The letter was posted to social media, where the actor who appeared in six of the nine films as Luke Skywalker has millions of followers.

Hamill started by noting when he was testing for his role in A New Hope, along with Harrison Ford and the late Carrie Fisher in 1976, that "there's no way we could have known what an incredibly rich and imaginative set of adventures this obscure little space movie would launch, inspire eight more chapters to tell the entire Skywalker story."

He concluded, "I am deeply thankful for all your continued enthusiasm and dedication to George's faraway galaxy, which will continue to grow with new storytellers building an even bigger gallery, filled with heroes, villains, action, romance, and, of course, The Force."

His character got raped by this trilogy, and it wasn't even just a Rian thing, JJ started it by basically making everything Luke accomplished in the OT (peace, balance, new republic) obsolete after a mere 30 years.

How so? Luke’s only scene in the first JJ film was just standing there. It wasn’t until the Johnson film that everything he stood for was compromised.

The whole point of TFA was that Luke disappeared after he screwed up the new jedi order and then the first order blew up a shite ton of planets with one shot.

That movie painted Luke as a failure and made everything that was accomplished in the original trilogy meaningless because things got even worse 30 years later.

No the whole point of TFA was to introduce some new and interesting characters. It didn't tell us anything about Luke or what he did or didn’t do.

I think you mean TLJ and the scene where it shows him about to murder his nephew because he saw a shred of darkness in him, after believing and turning the biggest mass murderer in the galaxy to the light? None of this was given to us in TFA.

ETA I realize it’s easy to hate on TFA for what the trilogy became, but TFA was a competent reboot to the franchise. Sure they could have explained more of why the First Order existed and what happened to the republic, and why the Resistance was even a thing, but in TFA the focus was clearly on the new characters and everything else that could have bogged the film down could (but wasn’t) have been developed in the next film.

Yeah but JJ left it open for there to be a good reason why Luke “failed”. Was it really his failure or was it because of a master plan by Snoke? Was he the cause of it all? Who was he? How did he destroy the new Jedi Order from the inside?

And then Rian Johnson was a fig and ruined Star Wars.

One of the deepest flaws in his "sequel trilogy" arc

One of. . .

I mean, just a single scene of Kylo sending battalions of Stormtroopers to his hermit planet. Luke just destroying huge swaths of them for several minutes.

Cut to some other scene

Cut back to Luke walking away serenely atop a mountain of dead Stormtroopers cuts away as he passes a force-crushed First Order landing craft.

Off to concentrate to death

The ST was an unnecessary addition to the SW saga that was made worse by poor execution.

shite like this is why the executives should’ve just hired a team of nerds and instructed them to go look through internet forum boards and come back with ideas. Like godamn, that took you two minutes off of the top of your head and shits on their creative team.
