So, I watched this movie this weekend not knowing who the hell Andy Kaufman was or his shtick. Never even seen Taxi.

1. This guy was trolling a world unfamiliar with the concept of trolling.

2. Jim Carrey made Andy Kaufman seem like he was autistic.

3. This Mighty Mouse gag, I don't get was so funny about it. I guess maybe it's ridiculousness?

4. Punishing his audience by reading the Great Gatsby was utter hilarious. Then troll them with the recording cracked me up.

Anyway, it seemed like a decent flick. I still don't understand Foreign Man or appeal of Tony Clifton but that's just me.

Women's Wrestling had to be one of the greatest trolls ever.

He was the godfather of trolling

I don't really find kaufmans humor all that appealing, but I can definitely respect it for what it is and who he was

I thought the movie was great, btw. The ending hits me right in the feels

The Andy's Playhouse seemed rather disturbing concept but I liked that he wanted the TV to troll people.

Carrey just made him seem like a creep/pedophile to me.

I read an interview with his daughter a while back that she was halfway expecting him to reappear on the anniversary of his death.

Dunno. But it should be.

The show was epic.

Yes it's on Netflix.
And how anybody can't appreciate Tony Clifton is beyond me. Best part of the movie, imo.

Jim Carrey's best acting job, great movie. I saw Tony Clifton last year. I don't know who's playing him but he was pretty good.

Andy probably didn't either

He rejected the notion that he was funny and he refused to be called a comedian

appeal of Tony Clifton
he's a caricature of 70's lounge singers. Washed up, shitty singers, annoying, over inflated sense of self, rude, etc.

TC is a character and in some ways is a way for Andy to live on indefinitely as this character is played by different people

I saw it when it originally aired on SNL (back when the show was funny). I couldn't stop laughing.

AK was one of my favorites.

It was the 1970's. You had to live in that decade to understand the humor. Most of his stuff wasn't funny, but it made his audience so uncomfortable they had to laugh.

Taxi was a great show until he and Carol (?) took over the show. It went down quickly after that season.

I remember watching that one afternoon and flipping over at a commercial to the Real World and realizing how awesome it would be for someone to make up a Tony Clifton character and go on that crap. Andy Kaufman would have had a field day with reality television.

Tony Clifton bit was hilarious. The Mighty Mouse thing wasn't particularly funny so much as it was ballsy. Keep in mind this was done on the very first episode of Saturday Night Live.
