Anyway, I just outlined the discussion and spoilers thread. A ton of useful links and a few gifs/pics. Can't wait to start it. Probably tomorrow

Gotta disagree with this my man. It's a movie based off of Bruce Wayne/Batman and features Gordon, Scarecrow, Ra's Al Guhl, The Joker, Bane and Catwoman. If you do a Superhero MWADS, then Nolan's Batman is going to be at the top. That's what it gets labeled as. Sure you can say its a crime drama, which it clearly is that too, but at its core, it's a comic book movie. So it's fair to compare it to The Avengers, just like it is fair to compare it to Iron Man, The Green Lantern, Watchmen, Thor, ect. Sin City is a completely different style, but just because it's done different from the rest, doesn't exclude it from its genre.
I won't go with the Nolans Batman > Avengers debate, which I completely agree with

Don't care.
Anyone who has done an advance screening of MoS care to give a spoiler-free review?

Not necessarily a better MOVIE, it fits the constructs of its inspiration far better, which is probably what the original point is going for.
Add in the Nolan part and I agree 100%. "Superhero movie" Batman would be more the 90's versions. We'll also most likely see a "superhero" Batman in the Justice League movie but Nolan's version was exactly as Freauxzen described.
Avengers = Fun, great superhero movie
BB/DK/DKR = Great crime drama's based on comic book characters
Not comparable.

As a huge Superman fan, this concerns me. I am starting to think it might be a mess.
For the record I do disagree with Rotten Tomatoes rankings from time to time. Here recently I hated Iron Man 3, but Rotten Tomatoes loved IM3.

Good lord
You really think BB and TDKR were crime drama's? Yes TDK has some elements, but Nolan's Batman trilogy very successfully translated Batman's comic book themes to a more grounded medium in film.
To just throw out that Nolan Trilogy = crime drama, is completely missing the point and over simplifying the movies.

Starting to worry for Superman. Hopefully the critics are off, and the movie performs well.

They rated cloud atlas at 67% and that movie was a lot better than 67% imo

My hope is that the critics either: A) had way too high expectations and the movie just isn't living up to ridiculously high expectations or B) is comparing it to Nolan's Batman trilogy and saying, "it's not as good as the trilogy so it sucks." Or a combination of the two.
I'm really excited for this movie and will probably like it no matter what but I do hope the critics are just being too harsh on this one.

Some of these reviews suffer from "Snyder Bias"
Posted on 6/12/13 at 4:01 pm to rdw1690
Maybe it has to do with the fact this is the first Superman film that doesn't have the traditional suit, music, and breaks completely from the Donner/Reeve mold. That version of Superman is so iconic that any kind of break from that tradition is just hard for people to intially accept.

Who are these people who say "I won't see this movie because RT has it at 68% and not 75%"?
If you wanna see then you'll go see it unless you're a moron.

And to offer a shred of hope, if you honestly think about it, 68% isn't that bad. A movie rated 49 and below would be considered a "mess".
We set our hopes way too high for this film, although I'm not expecting Superman version of TDK Trilogy, like before. I'm still looking forward to it and I highly doubt it'll drop below 61.

I've read through most of the negative reviews and the top 3 criticism are:
1. Not like Superman Returns. I'm guessing they don't understand that you don't make a 5 years later sequel to a movie that came out 25 years earlier and that it's okay if Superman throws a punch.
2. The size and scope of the action in the second half of the movie is "too big". I'm pretty sure that when two God-like beings throw down in a major urban area, the size and scale of their destruction will be pretty massive. Again, this "criticism" is a joke and highlights a positive in the movie.
3. The female supporting characters are underwritten. Um... who cares? This is Man of Steel, not Pointless Female Characters in Action Movies. Lois Lane isn't the focus of this movie. Martha Kent isn't the focus. This story focuses on Kal-El/Clark Kent/Superman - hence why it is called Man of Steel. The supporting cast is there to support the main character, not have their own limelight. Again, another pointless irrelevant criticism.
Got myself a ticket for 7 pm tomorrow and a ticket for the 3D showing at 12.

I remember reading one negative review for TDKR where the main criticism was Nolan not supporting the Global Warming agenda because the Hudson River was iced over. Apparently, that hasn't happened in NY in a long time.

Yeah I read one last year for The Avengers where the lady was saying that the entire movie was like Transformers made it to Asgard and I'm like wtf is this twat waffle pmsing about now?
