I was gonna respond with "I like Avengers more than the Batman movies too" but decided to back away slowly.

The batman movies aren't superhero movies, they are merely inspired by superhero material. And yes, The Avengers is a better SUPERHERO movie than any of the Batmans, clearly. Not necessarily a better MOVIE, it fits the constructs of its inspiration far better, which is probably what the original point is going for.

One more reason not to trust critics.

nailed it

The Dark Knight was a CRIME DRAMA. Nolan himself is on records as saying this many times.

Have you ever read a comic book? Just wondering.

Quite a few.

I judge the product on the medium it's presented in. A movie shouldn't be judged with graphic novel or book criteria or reverse. Just because the original source material has an influence (themes, characters, etc.) on the production doesn't mean the two should be equal across mediums.

Nolan's Batman wasn't my ideal Batman interpretation, but he pulled the themes out of Batman's world across mediums better than any other comic book movie to date.

Just my opinion.

It wasn't, but it wasn't that far off. Things like the Rachel change-up, Ledger's death, and multiple editing quirks prevented from reaching it's potential. I also still think they should've have made TDKR into two movies.

Compared it to transformers, said there's a lack of story connectivity.

Said Zachary Snyder made it a summer blockbuster

Best.

Give me a Batman Begins-esque Superman film with alot of action that's nothing like Superman Returns, and I'll be ecstatic.

Just take my damn money already!!!

If true, then that sucks but should be expected after Superman Returns bombed. Warner Bros. was ready to finally make money on Superman after nearly 25 years of burning through cash on project after project. I doubt they wanted to make it so dark/real that it wouldn't appeal to everyone.

If a recurring criticism is that it should have been more like Superman Returns then I don't think I could imagine a better endorsement for the film.

Nailed it. That's exactly how I feel about what the critics are saying.

Anyway, I just outlined the discussion and spoilers thread. A ton of useful links and a few gifs/pics. Can't wait to start it. Probably tomorrow.

Just because TDK is inspired by crime dramas doesn't make it a crime drama. It's a superhero movie, just not in the same way as Avengers.

Absolutely. I was more disappointed at that than even phantom menace. At least phantom menace had one great fight scene.

If you guys need a good laugh, venture over to the MoS forums. They are in meltdown mode over the negative reviews. The meltdowns are so epic, they remind me of SEC fans after a loss.

I bet. Who would have thought that at this point world war z score would be >>> man of steel score? I'll be seeing man of steel regardless.
