I was a bit disappointed with this episode. Probably my least favorite of the season so far. The MLK thing felt forced to me a bit.

Also, Bobby playing an important role in the episode was strange. That is going to take some getting used to if it continues.

Don's speech/revelation at the ending was amazing, however. We are starting to truly see how fricked up in the head he is.

Ginsberg was funny with the chick. Joan hugging Dawn was so awkward and funny. I was going to comment on how miserable Don was and then he turned it around with Bobby making him feel love.

Oh and

Thought she was cute, but dayum, look at that body!

She knows he s screws around. That's not the problem. She doesn't want him screwing in the city where people they know can see him. Much less in the same neighborhood.

Were all these white people really this distraught over this?

In New York, and other Northeastern cities they were. Racism wasn't a "national" problem in the sixties. It was considered a Southern thing. Northern people didn't have to admit their racism until forced busing took place.

The MLK situation is a really hard one for TV to deal with. They wouldn't be able to show an accurate depiction of The South's/hard Right's reaction without telling some very distasteful jokes and some, "He got what he deserved" dialogue.

Then they need to take all of the pop culture mentions out too. For that version of MM to work, they would also need to use fake brands for all of the products.

I felt the scene that introduced the MLK angle was really poorly done.

It was a confusing scene already with Paul Newman being a tiny speck at a podium. He was also mumbling about endorsing some guy for presidency, which didn't connect to the awards at all. Then some guy in the background yells unintelligible sentences that makes everyone get sad.

Then they clarify that MLK has been shot and they make it seem like the whole world is in mourning.

Maybe because I wasn't around to experience that, I don't know what the reaction was like. But it seems really far fetched that so many white people in New York City would cry over his death. Interesting in the news reports and worried about riots? Sure.

But instant "Oh woeful day!" reactions?

I didn't enjoy the whole MLK story line, but how else are you going to react to tragic news if not instantly?

I thought Pete's reaction was kind of the forced, overreaction that we see people do all the time to somehow make it about them.

Which made it an interesting conflict with Harry's more real reaction that was blatantly all about him.

Harry just seemed more genuine, I guess because he made his motivations more known.

I just assumed Pete was taking out his frustration with his shitty personal life on Harry.

I'm loving Harry this season. Not taking any bullshite from anyone

Pretty sure he was on acid the whole time. He and Roger probably drop it together on the regular.

Stan in that scene killed me. Great reaction shots from him.

Notice it was the women and Pete who had that reaction. Women and Pete types have worse reactions to the deaths of people they've never even heard of on Facebook every other day, much less someone like MLK. It didn't seem out there to me at all.

I thought it was pretty good showing all the white folk not having a clue how to deal with the black people in their lives. Joan's hug was awkward, and I'd imagine pretty perfect.
