He is off at work. His speeches are falling flat. The SCDP Heinz campaign was way better than Peggy's, but she delivered much better than Don.
He was "off" at work last season too, until he kicked arse and took names over at Dow and on the Jag presentation.
I think he's not engaged or invested and its at least partially because of residual disappointment over Joan's situation. (Harry in the partner's meeting was great. "My contributions and accomplishments happen in the light of day." Jesus, and he has a point too.)
I also thought the SCDP work was so much better it shouldn't have mattered what anybody had to say about them. The work was leaps and bounds better than what Peggy had produced.

The episode previews are absolutely useless, which is better than giving too much away.
I was coming to post this. It's almost like it's a joke

I just read a couple reviews and I started piecing together a few thoughts. They really take the "each episode is a short story" thing to heart when making an episode.
All the parallels and sly references and 'more than coincidences'. It's entertaining to watch the show, but it's also very entertaining to think about and discuss the show afterwards.
From the beginning with the meeting at Pete's place, where he goes to cheat on his wife, they're cheating on Baked Beans. As the relationship progresses, they decide to class it up a bit by getting a hotel room, only to find out their mistress is having other suitors in the room they paid for.
Closed doors and information imbalance seemed to be a recurring theme as well. Everyone wanted to know what Project K was, Don wanted to know what Peggy was saying and what Megan was doing, Harry wanted to be in the partners meeting because he didn't know what Joan was saying.
On the Don/Megan front, it's kind of funny that Megan plays a maid on her show, while Don's bangs his mistress in the Rosen's maid's bedroom.
Just a bunch of little shite that all ties together. It's crazy.

This is why Mad Men is so good. It is the smartest drama in television.

And, they had a new secretary taking notes in the partners' meeting. Late last year, when Joan made partner, she had Scarlet do that job. Now Scarlet is on her shite list and that dumb blond is doing it.
I wonder though, how many of these tie-ins are really just a coincidence. MM fans read so much into everything.

Joan chose to be a whore to better her future. She wanted to be independent of Roger and that's what she got. She got naked and fricked a fat man for it. Her vagina has always been for sale. Only Don didn't realize it.
Harry is probably my favorite character besides Burt Cooper. People always claim "Don". I find him a loathsome character up there with his wife, Betty.
The scenes between Harry and Burt have always been spectacular. They are rare but when they happen, it's amazing.
My favorite nuance tonight...Harry taking off his shoes when entering Burt's office. It's been at least 2 seasons since we've seen that done. He may be pissed off but at least he still respects Burt.

Burt had some pimp argyle socks on in that scene. I did like that touch though and thought that whole scene was great.

Burt's an interesting character with no backstory. He's the only character that hasn't had an offshoot somewhere...he's just the old man who helped start the agency, loathes shoes in his office and likes strange art. He's pimp to the core though and sharp as a sword.

That's because he went 2 seasons without an office.

What did Peggy's ad say again? I just remember it had the bottle, which the client wanted.
"Heinz. The Only Ketchup" or something like that.

Can I say again that that Sunshine fricker is a tier 1 douchebag? And when are we going to get to know that new arse kisser in the office?

Is it true they stopping after 7 seasons?
Posted on 4/22/13 at 12:14 pm to crazytigerfan69
I think so, which is fine with me. If that's the case, we'll see the beginnings of a wind down late this season.

Awesome episode last night. Nice to see Wendy Peffercorn getting work.

I always love when he is randomly chilling in the background

Her sister actually.

So much stuff happened that I don't think its come up in the thread yet, but I enjoyed getting to see Dawn for the first time as anything other than a "we hired a black woman" prop. Is she first Secretary who we've seen on their own since Peggy at the very beginning of the show?
I always liked that, and don't feel like we've gotten much of an insight into what life at SCDP is like for the support staff the way that we did at the old Sterling Cooper.

Other than the secretaries Don, Roger and Harry nailed, yes.
