Pete could have got some there. She was still kinda out of it from having her cortex zapped.

The last song came from "You Only Live Twice," (1967) where James Bond dies (staged death) and then comes back again just like before. One lyric from the song is "One life for yourself and one for your dreams.”

Read into all of that what you may.

Don is realizing (he's been doing it for a while) that Megan is temporary. One of the reason why he had such a visceral reaction when she first restarted her acting career is because he knew it would lead her away from him, and he's never been grounded or had something stable. He was finally content, and it was leaving him. So I think Don is just accepting that she'll leave his life.

It makes sense. He's much older than her, and settling down with a younger women can feel like going back in time and reliving your life. I think the sore tooth was just symbolism for the reality that was killing him: he's been alone all his life and he's gonna be alone again. Once he accepted it there was relief.

Both Don and Megan have an itch neither of them can scratch.
Thought the same thing

How about the abundance of doors (both opening and closing) in this episode? Rory mentioning getting to the door of depression. Megan wanting doors open, Roger and Pete already gone through doors where they can't go back. Don the only one who seems to be returning in a sense. It's interesting that Adam is now the vessel of Don's subconsciousness and Megan turning into a full on Betty. Even the drink that Don ordered at the end, an old fashion tells us Don will go back to his old ways. It's good to see Peggy still around though I still think she is going to get the Betty treatment(ETA: two things here 1)movie theater again, where she gave a handy. 2) Her line to Don about going to Richmond "It's not Paris").Good for Cooper getting an office. I am excited for next season.

Two James Bond songs in the show (Don and Peggy were watching Casino Royale).

Pete is the worst fighter ever.

Does Don know that Peggy likes to give handjobs in the theater?

Roger is a player.

I'm pissed that Lane's fantasy photo girl didn't go anywhere other than his wife finding her photo after he was already gone.

Don needs to put that little dweeb copywriter in his place. Tired of him mouthing off to Don.

Like he did with Peggy? That worked out well for him.

Ginsberg is brilliant and Don needs him. That's why Don couldn't say shite to him just how people don't say shite back to Don when Don mouths off.

I thought they were emphasizing Megan's horse teeth more this episode but maybe it was just coincidental. I thought Don was going to grimace when watching her video. He still loves her but when that wears off it'll be over quick.

This finale tied up the season well. Not sure about Don and Megan. I got the impression he "fell back in love" watching her screen test. Remember he hadn't yet agreed to get her the audition. But going to the bar ordering an old fashioned and getting hit on by the 2 women definitely implies he's going back to the old Don.

Pete gets his apartment in the city by getting his arse kicked by the husband of his frickbuddy. Nice.

I think we can assume we'll see some of Peggy next season. Does Weiner have his contract for season 6 hammered out with AMC? Or will there be drama and delay again?

Yeah, noticed the doors.

A couple of the transitions were one door closing and another one opening. Transitioning between Don and Pete.

how do you know what movie they were watching? I guess I missed where they showed/said it was Casino Royale.

So here are my thoughts, after watching it twice and thinking about it.

Don and Megan are over. They may be married longer, he may still be good to her for a while, but he's done. It could not have been more obvious. He got her what she wanted, despite his own knowledge that the way she got it was not "right", then very pointedly walked away while she was in the limelight.

Watching her screen test was like a good-bye. Looking at the girl he loved at her best, but not having to hear her talking or bitching at him. Her leaving the agency was really an issue he cannot get past.

He probably slept with the girls. Affairs are historically his most typical and successful physical tie with women. He has his "emotional" ties with women now with Peggy and Joan. They get him, they like the work like he does, and he's comfortable being with them. I love that he and Peggy are on these terms now...no anger or rancor.

I'm not sure of the implication of him seeing Adam. I know the Lane issue could bring that up in his psyche, but what else does it mean? I like the idea that it is a "message" that he needs to be what he is.

Roger and his acid. Hee.

Peggy just doesn't get to the top as fast as she wants, and is always slightly disgusted by that, but she's definitely on her way up. I really hope she and Don don't end up at cross purposes with each other, but I figure they eventually will have to clash over business issues.

Pete is just sad, sad, sad. I mean, he finally get something going with a girl and she gets her brain zapped and forgets him...wha? Who does that happen to other than Pete Campbell? And right as he is getting his freedom in the city. At least he has his miniature orchestra.

So Joan is blaming herself for Lane. Apparently, her coochie can save the world. I do love the way she walks around like she is the exact center of the universe. She has been a wonder to watch this season.

I was secretly glad the hang ups were not Glen.

I have found I can live without Betty on this show at all.

I hate Ginsberg. Hate.

Loved the shot of the partners looking out the window with Joan in the middle. Easy to see a juxtaposition with the opening credits with them in profile against the window.

speaking of characters we haven't seen in a while.
I have been re-watching early Mad Men and I have to say, a part of me misses Betty on the show. She wasn't always this cold. Also, do you think there is any chance Megan gets preggo and never tells Don? Hell, I half expect her to do anything to further her career at this point, but maybe I am wrong.

I think there is no doubt that Lane hanging himself has affected Don.

Obviously it not so cut and dry what exactly it did to him but I think that it showed him the lengths of Lane's ambition- that he would die before he failed and how important his work was to him. At the same time, it showed him how short and difficult life can be, and that its important to live in the moment and not try to be someone you are not- sort of how Don started the show, except without trying to cover up the fact that he wasnt Don Draper, he was actually Dick whatever.

Its like he has come full circle, from trying to be someone he was not to now being himself, but in the end they are the exact same people. His bro was there to show that he is letting go of his past and embracing the future?, further illustrating the full circle idea.
