also for everyone bitching about tonight not answering enough there are still 3.5 hrs left of episodes, its not like they can have a 3.5 hr war between man in black and CW. I'd be willing to bet the finale starts with a flashback explaining more to you.

i'd be ok with that.

this has been my thinking the entire time
It only ends once...everything else is just progress.

The answer has fit since Ab Aeterno... It might not be the case, but that doesn't mean it doesn't fit.

I don't know about Jacob not caring about the world in general. Unless I missed something, the point of keeping MIB on the island is because of the problems it would cause for the rest of the world.

This is how I sum up this episode....

Her explaining the light how she did was fine too. It's ancient times. Lots of weird things have logical explanations in 2010 but it's 46 ad or whatever.
I didn't think of this. This makes me much more ok with the lame explanation.

I hope you're right but we have been saying this for a while now. I have lost of faith that it will happen now.

That's the point for the other characters not named Jacob.

Yeah but you're saying that Jacob is only responsible for protecting the island and not the rest of the world. So then if MIB gets off and messes up the rest of the world and it doesn't affect the island, then why does Jacob care? If it does affect everyone and the island, then why make up such a dumbass game like this one?

I agree with tigerinstaugustine. I think the finale will show us some type of flashback. Or even next week flocke could explain more.

I was very underwhelmed. First off, MIB looked like a bitch this entire episode. The guy kept getting his arse beat by Jacob and his Mother. Who the frick lets a 945 yr old woman knock them the frick out. That was weak. Better yet...how can they kill a whole fricking village.
It's like Nancy Grace and Jude Law wiping out an entire village of Rednecks. It's just not happening.
This whole episode was beyond fricked up. It went from semi-plausible to ridiculous with the wine. That fricking wine must be carrying some serious anti-oxidants for that bitch-sip Jacob took to make him Invincible.
I've never complained about an episode until now. This episode has completely destroyed the Light/Dark concept with the rocks. Whose good and evil. This will never be defined. It seems to now be in the eye of the beholder...whether you side with the mama's boy faith healer...or the bitch slapped man of reason. It seems the writers are forcing the fans to choose sides.
They're fighting over what...bright light? This better be some kind of naturally occurring nuclear energy source or something. Otherwise it all seems ridiculous...pulling elements from Faith and trying to make a real life plausible scenario. You're either going to stick with the fiction and not cross over to plausible or just the opposite. It's a complete failure to mix the two. This show just lose any ounce of credibility now.
I'm waiting for Wazoo from the Flintstones to show up at the end of the show and quote "Let your Conscious be your guide." fricking awful.

I just dont get why everyone expected THIS episode to answer everything.
It showed how they got to the island
That they were in fact brothers
That MIB was actually very likable
That there is a definite heart to the island
That MIB was corrupted/turned to smoke/body taken by Jacob of all people
That their Mom who was protecting the island was relieved to be free of that duty (she tells MIB thank you when he kills her)
I think this episode served its purpose greatly in giving backstory to MIB prior to the last few hours of the show.

Anyone else with they would have stayed away from this vague religious/philosophical bullcrap and stuck with the cool sci-fi time loop, parallel universe stuff?

It probably is. But at the time Jacob's Mother explained it to him, they still used wooden ships. They probably didn't know what a "naturally occuring nuclear energy source or something" was. So instead she explained it as something of faith, or "religiousy". Just like people have always done for anything they can't understand.
Etd: typos.

Be careful what you say. Don't want to start a race war. White- good. Black- bad
