well jacob was the one who said what MIB believes about human nature...not MIB...so Jacob could be manipulating Richard's view of MIB...

What was the question?
to add to that, they also answered the question of "what do MiB and Jacob have to do with it?" Which was of equal importance IMO.

They haven't answered everything about what the island is. Why does it have magical properties.
If its on top of Hell, then I'd imagine that it would have to have magical properties to hold it back.

well jacob and mib have powers so im guessing this is what allowed locke to walk, sun to get preggards, and rose to not have the cancer - all of whom are candidates at some point

Why would Jacob bring people to the island if that was not his intention (to proove to MIB that humans aren't evil in nature).

Great epsisode, best one in a while, but man do they avoid the shite out of giving MIB a name.

Now the countdown to the MIB episode begins.
Spoiler:
Probably already know this but the title is across the sea

I think the MIB is right about human nature. They are all corruptable but not totally corrupt.
It was interesting how Jacob danced around why he wouldn't directly intervene when talking to Richard. His method is to take corruptable people and prove through their affiliation (faith) in him that they can overcome their sinful natures.
So what is nagging at me is how Richard told Jack and everyone at the beginning that they are all dead and in Hell. So does that mean that they all actually died in the plane crash or some other way and now they are in some sort of holding pattern? Is it really hell on the island because if it is, then why would Hurley say that if Richard didn't kill the MIB then they would all go to hell? If the island is hell then they are already there.
Man, Great episode.

So much uncertainty makes me think of the riddle about what to do if you encounter two men at a fork in a road, one who always tells the truth, and one who always lies. You only get one chance to ask a question to find out which way to go. So what do you do? You ask one of them what the other would tell you to do, and you do the opposite.
How does that fit here? I don't know. My mind is mixed up from this show. I love it.

it wasn't necessarily referenced...just seems like that is the type of relationship that Jacob and MIB have...

Maybe he's just reacting out of anger and confusion, and he did not mean it literally.

It symbolized Richard shifting to MIB's side. And MIB lied to him by telling him that he was already dead and in hell.

Hell is below the Island. I would imagine that the Island would be much more crowded if the Island was hell.

think richard was just resorting back to what he was led to belive by the MIB. Richard was petrified of not being absolved from his murder and going to hell and i think MIB caught onto this durring his smokey recon and used it to manipulate richard from the beginning

Titus Welliver was badazz. Might just be the aura of the "original" MIB but I think he could end up being one of the show's best performances.

Maybe now we should start looking out for "Abandon all hope, those who enter here."
Posted on 3/23/10 at 9:32 pm to OMLandshark
the island cant be hell since we have had a few leave it... you cant just leave hell
michael and walt got out.... obviously the chosen ones escaped for a while.
its just a holding cell for whatever MIB is.

Yea, I don't see where they said that the island was hell, but rather a prison for MIB.
