There is no coherent story. It's all a misshapen array of cobbled fanfic and forced political agenda, dressed up in PartyCity USA™ costume gear, posing as 'Tolkien'.
And more than anything, Tolkien was about telling STORIES.
This ain't Tolkien. Not even close.

I'm not thrilled. The brother who Galadriel is talking about is implied to be Finrod, who didn't die fighting orcs, he died killing a werewolf with his bare hands. Which is way more pimp.
This isn't necessarily out of character for Galadriel, she's often described as proud and willful early on in the Silmarillion. She came to make her own kingdom to rule. She rejected the pardon of the Valar after the War of Wrath, wasn't ready to go back yet.
I think it was well-known that Sauron was responsible for Finrod's death, and I suspect some of the Noldor elite (such as her) knew Sauron wasn't taken out in that war. I could see where she's still holding a grudge, while some of the younger Elves think everything's cool now that Morgoth is gone.

Seriously, while I’m not watching it, at least with The House of Dragon it roughly gives me the plot in the trailers. Like I know what it’s going to be about. If you’ve never seen or read Lord of the Rings, you’d have no idea what this series is about. What is this series about? No one without such a brand recognition market a movie or show like this.

And she needs to be a warrior princess for this why?

Sauron personally killed more young elves and men while Morgoth more saved himself for the eldest and powerful of them. That doesn’t make sense. Sure Sauron personally had Finrod killed, but it’d be like Hitler being defeated and then forgetting that Heydrich was still living, who was more cunning and orderly than his master. No, Heydrich would be sought after to be destroyed even more by the younger generations.

Social media embargo is up for #LordofTheRings #TheRingsofPower #LOTR, so: I’ve seen the first 2 episodes. I had been skeptical...but I was very pleasantly surprised. It is actually good! Very good! Visuals & tone are just right. IMO, a great addition to the Tolkien world

#TheRingsofPower is CINEMATIC EXCELLENCE. The scale of this story has never been done before, making each moment EPIC & BREATHTAKING. The marriage between practical and computer generated effects will set the standard for everything that follows.

#TheRingsOfPower is a CINEMATIC MASTERPIECE! The visionary team behind it has produced an epic that dives into its roots and delivers a story like no other. Its production is beyond comparison, masterfully orchestrating a mythology that fans have been waiting for. Bravo!

The Lord of the Rings: #TheRingsOfPower instantly captured my imagination w/ captivating stories & characters in a Middle Earth that's both familiar & new. The story/setup is so dense, however, the pacing in EPs 1 & 2 is rather slow, but it definitely leaves you wanting more.

I've seen the first 2 episodes of #LordOfTheRings #TheRingsOfPower. It is stunningly gorgeous to look at, and the score is beautiful. It also takes a while to get going, and there's a LOT going on. But for fans of the movies, it'll take you right back at points once it's rolling.

Having read enough Tolkien (The Hobbit, LOTR trilogy, Silmarillion, and more) several times over, I'm quite certain that Galadriel never put on a suit of armor and went on orc hunting raids or commanded great armies of the North.
There are no black dwarves, elves or Hobbits. None. Period.
That's all I need to know that this isn't Tolkien's work, or anywhere close to respecting his lore.

Pics of the reviewers BTW.
Seriously, you’re an idiot if you fall for this. Two of the very first lines of different reviewers:

Does that make sense how nearly identical those are with the exact emphasis in text?
And it’s a masterpiece? Who has ever called a show two episodes in a masterpiece? You’ve kind of got to keep going in order to be called something of that magnitude. You can say it’s fricking awesome, but a masterpiece with the series as a whole?
Yeah, you’re full of shite. They’re clearly being bribed and being told exactly what to say. If you believe these, you’re as dumb as the day is long.
EDIT: And by the way, TheOneRing.net helps put on the Tolkien Symposium, and given their lineup last year, spare me what they endorse:

That’s why it’s called “access media”. Trade favorable reviews (dictated verbatim by the media conglomerate) in exchange for early access and the right to publish before others.

These comments are glorious.
I guess these are only funny if you're so deeply invested in this show being awful? They certainly aren't in any way clever. I guess those of us who aren't as invested in the failure of a show we haven't seen, and will watch a couple episodes of to see whether or not it's any good, don't understand the appeal of obvious-but-also-stupid reference humor.
The trailer was the same kind of cg animated whatever that they've been showing us. There isn't more than 1 sustained second of any one performance, so judging any performances is dumb. There are some cornball lines, which I think can make sense if you're adapting Tolkien, though you'd hope they're not overused. Not every book is like the hobbit, but I think the rest of the trilogy definitely has a childlike sense of wonder and simplicity. I've only read the silmarillion twice, so I know I'm not allowed to comment on it here. I think you have to pretend it's the only book you've read or even thought about since dropping out of college to be allowed an opinion on it here.
Show probably won't be very good. You guys have fun sitting through every episode anyway just so you can think you sound cool dunking on something while actually sounding like typical basement dwellers.

Amazon promised the audience a Tolkien series.
This isn't Tolkien.
The tired old "how do you know unless you've seen it" trope is worn out and pathetic. We know. We can already see from the casting and how the actors, showrunners, etc... are talking that this is a garbage show.
Tolkien doesn't need to be modernized. It's HIS story, he wrote it, as he intended, and with no question of why. That's the lore. He invented ALL of it. No one can 'improve' on what was in the creator's mind.
I get it. Lots of folks out there just want content on their screen to gaze at as they snack on their couch. They don't want to be troubled with thinking too much. Just consume content, and then get excited for new content.
This is going to fail massively.
Don't just take my word for it either.
Here's Just some guy to explain it in brief detail.

I see I have touched a nerve.
Mission accomplished.

It’s just not enough to shite all over a series you’ve never watched. You have to shite on people who want to give it a chance as well.

I trust Matt from Nerd of the Rings, so this is the only review any of us should take into consideration. This guy makes a living from creating videos of Tolkien deep lore.

Had the pleasure of joining a theater full of Tolkien fans in watching the first 2 episodes of #TheRingsOfPower . Can’t wait to say more, but there were more things for deep lore fans than I expected, and I walked away excited for what’s to come. There are a couple things that I’m still a bit unsold on, but the craftsmanship on display here is very clearly top notch and some very specific concerns I had seem to be much ado about nothing, which is great. Can’t wait for everyone to see it so we can talk freely!! #lordoftherings #lotr #ringsofpower #tolkien #middleearth
