You have to admit, some of these shots look phenomenal.

Shots are a poor substitute for a story.

The 2 trees, from what I saw, looks really good. But we're talking 5 seasons of characters, story and action.

*Heard chris gore put it perfectly. These pics are just coffee table book display stuff. It’s called a Look Book in the industry. There’s zero substance here

So you're saying they hired frick scene coaches so they can recruit youngsters to LOTR?

No, they didn't. That was a misunderstanding. The show is rated TV-14, not TV-MA. It's obviously too scary and intense for younger children, but it's otherwise going to be a family show.

Two days ago, I listened to the full soundtrack. It's really good. In addition for specific musical themes for the major characters and settings, they actually have composed and recorded new music for every single episode.

The production values for this show are going to be the best in television history.

Not sure why the latest trailer didn’t go with something from the soundtrack? I was pleasantly surprised with Bear McCreary’s composition, especially having to follow up from Howard Shore’s epic score from the trilogy.

Well that’s encouraging. I had thought they were going to include nudity because of those intimacy coordinators.

As for younger children, I had my young children watch the LOTR trilogy and they were fine. I would read a chapter and then watch the scenes that go along with it. They loved it.

I did as well. I didn’t think it was nearly as good as the LOTR soundtrack, but little is, and I thought it was pretty good.

I just find it funny that there are people who so desperately hope it fails. Remember, it was to the point where they were making stuff up about the trailers... remember "first look at Sauron"?

Given how popular the material is, combined with the fact that we really don't have much of anything available, you'd think people would be eager to see this succeed.

I still wonder if some of the negative buzz is coming from a competitor. I could see HBO being nervous about it- is there room for 2 similar series on the market? They had it all to themselves with GoT, now they're going head-to-head against a bigger budget, and a bigger property.

No one said it would revert to cable or something. But eventually growth markets stabilize, winners and losers emerge, the barriers to entry go up, the winners no longer want or can afford to keep sustaining losses.

This is the problem cable had. If streaming services start doing this, more people will adopt the "get the service for one month a year and watch everything" model.

Plus it’s saying that a women needs a sword to be powerful? Isn’t that counter-woke? It’s like these woke idiots don’t even know how to logically spew their propaganda.

Dude it’s an hour a week. People can and will watch both if they want. It’s not like watching one excludes the other.

I know it sounds crazy, but the anti-ROP push has been bordering on hysterical.

It's been a long time since I've seen such an effort made, to convince people to not even give a show (or movie) a chance.
Last time I saw this, it was when John Carter was close to being released. Suddenly you saw shills popping up, screaming it's a copy of Avatar, it's a disgrace to ERB, etc. And again, it was before the film even released.

We all know what happened then, it was a box-office bomb, paving the way for Disney to buy Lucasfilm (Star Wars) so they could have a guaranteed profit machine. And the shame of it was, John Carter was as good as any Disney Star Wars, or better. But the anti-marketing hit job worked. I've been wary of this type of anti-hype ever since.

I'm interested in this. All things being equal, I would rather watch a Tolkien-themed show over GoT. I will watch both, but I prefer Tolkien's world to most other fantasy settings. I would say Howard's Hyborian Age (Conan) is second, Burrough's Barsoom stuff a close 3rd.
I don't need some youtube guru to tell me what to watch, or more importantly, what NOT to. I'll make my own decisions. If it sucks, I will quit watching it. If it's good, I'll be happy.

I know that so many of you are upset that Galadriel fights with a sword in this series, and that ruins her character and all.

But I wanted to tell you that I have just learned that there's a Fellowship of the Ring movie out there that turns Arwen Evenstar into a fricking action hero. Instead of Glorfindel, it's her that rides out against the Riders and saves Frodo at the Ford of Bruinen.

Can you believe that shite? Turning Arwen into an action star. Her riding out to possibly battle the Ringwraiths? What utter feminist trash. I hope no one watches that abortion of a movie that desecrates Tolkien's vision.

Don’t forgot to buy as much merch as you can.

Books, t shirts, copies of the series… go all in.
