Frederic Forrest was a great character actor who really blended in to scenes. You probably didn't realize who he was in Falling Down either. IMDB

People will always wonder what could have been if John Wayne and Jimmy Stewart could have done the original movie idea.

I don't think John Wayne would've improved it at all. Movie is perfect aside from some 1980s special effects (the lightning).

I remember watching it when it originally aired. It was must see TV. Networks don't make things like LD anymore.

Yeah, it was hard for me to see this when I first found that out.

Blue duck was such a dick

The Buffalo Heifer grew up to be Claudia on The Americans. I always felt sorry for Newt.

Except the dude's absolutely right, at least in my opinion. Tastes vary but for me it is definitely one of the best ever.

If you label The Sopranos as the beginning of the elevation of television, it's difficult to think of anything before that period began that is as good as Lonesome Dove with all things considered.

Just curious. What would you consider that is better than "decent"?

Not much to compare it to because I haven't watched many 3 episode mini-series, and it's unfair to compare it to an 8 or 10 episode arc like a John Adams or Band of Brothers. I think one of the issues for me is that it just seemed dated. If I had watched it when it originally aired, I may have felt differently.

For a person with the name Dad, you sure do have the opinions of a child.

Agree.

Band of Brothers is a little better but that's no knock on Lonesome dove. I still watch Call and Gus once or twice a year.

I guess so. But why does it seem dated? It's a western. The only special effects I can think of that look bad is the lightning.

I have the opinions of a child because I don't like the same miniseries as you?
Classic movie board right there.

Nah. It's probably just because your opinion on this particular show is out of whack with the vast majority opinion. And you stated it fairly emphatically. This likely accounts for the large number of downvotes you got as well.

But tastes and opinions on things like movies are largely subjective so you have every right to yours. Heck, I was always pretty meh on the Nolan Batman films so I know what it's like to have a minority opinion.
