I really enjoyed this movie but I do think that some of this movie is made up. The main guy is badass but was he really that badass? What do you guys think?

He's a goddamn Navy SEAL. Was that a serious question?
It's based on a book written by that SEAL himself.

Some of it doesn't correspond exactly the way Luttrell tells it in the book. Like them seeing the chinhook go down but it's certainly not made up.

Your'e also trying to tell a story of what was going on in other areas, yet were still affecting your situation. Of course there will be "liberties" taken

Did you read the book? The book is basically a post-op of Operation Redwing. Everything I have read is that Peter Berg went to great lengths to make sure that the movie stayed accurate and true to the book. Marcus Luttrell is that badass and his whole team got killed which made him the "Lone Survivor". Michael Murphy was posthumously awarded the Medal Of Honor and all three other guys, Marcus Luttrell included, were awarded the Navy Cross.

Haven't seen the movie/bootleg but in the book.. Aren't they just herders and not children that discover their position? Not really a big deal it's just been a while since I've read the book.

They are "herders" in the movie also. One of them happens to be younger than the other two. The movie clearly captures, across all the age ranges, the true hatred in their eyes

Gotcha.. The preview highlights the youngling.

I don't think it's completely made up I just think it's a little exaggerated. Like a Hollywood twist to make people enjoy the movie

We don't know how many fighters they encountered in that ambush. The MOH citation suggests 30-40. Estimates run as low as 10 according to some analysts. Either way, they were facing a much larger enemy force, the enemy possesed much heavier weapons, and the Taliban were hitting them from high ground forcing them to flee down a ravine - which left them further exposed.
Was Lt. Murphy a "badass"?
I'd say so.

quote:
THE ENSUING FIERCE FIREFIGHT RESULTED IN NUMEROUS ENEMY CASUALTIES, AS WELL AS THE WOUNDING OF ALL FOUR MEMBERS OF THE TEAM. IGNORING HIS OWN WOUNDS AND DEMONSTRATING EXCEPTIONAL COMPOSURE, LIEUTENANT MURPHY CONTINUED TO LEAD AND ENCOURAGE HIS MEN. WHEN THE PRIMARY COMMUNICATOR FELL MORTALLY WOUNDED, LIEUTENANT MURPHY REPEATEDLY ATTEMPTED TO CALL FOR ASSISTANCE FOR HIS BELEAGUERED TEAMMATES. REALIZING THE IMPOSSIBILITY OF COMMUNICATING IN THE EXTREME TERRAIN, AND IN THE FACE OF ALMOST CERTAIN DEATH, HE FOUGHT HIS WAY INTO OPEN TERRAIN TO GAIN A BETTER POSITION TO TRANSMIT A CALL. THIS DELIBERATE, HEROIC ACT DEPRIVED HIM OF COVER, EXPOSING HIM TO DIRECT ENEMY FIRE. FINALLY ACHIEVING CONTACT WITH HIS HEADQUARTERS, LIEUTENANT MURPHY MAINTAINED HIS EXPOSED POSITION WHILE HE PROVIDED HIS LOCATION AND REQUESTED IMMEDIATE SUPPORT FOR HIS TEAM. IN HIS FINAL ACT OF BRAVERY, HE CONTINUED TO ENGAGE THE ENEMY UNTIL HE WAS MORTALLY WOUNDED,
I'd say so.

the movie was great and they did change a few things but it was very accurate for the most part
people dont realize how elite navy seals are and what they can handle
they are men amoungst men
