I rewatched the Sopranos last month. Livia is horrible, Janice is a manipulative count, Tony is cruel and immature, Carmela is a bitch, both of the kids are spoiled brats. The whole family is fricked up.

It blows my mind that James Gandolfini was 38 in the first season. Dude looked like shite for 38

For me, it's Janice. Her character was so self centered with a "Holier Than Thou" attitude due to her enlightenment on the left coast before returning home.
Her dark side finally came to the forefront over dinner with Richie when she dishes up her response to his temper.

I truly hated almost every scene with A.J. in it. He had the most punchable face for a teenager on TV that I can remember.
The only saving grace for Meadow was that she was cute in that "Girl Next Door" kind of way-----but a brat none the less.

AJ is an annoying character but a believable one, just hated his scenes though.

I turned 37 in May and it's always insane seeing these actors around my age that I watched when I was younger. Tony and Carmela seemed like they were 50 when I watched the show

One of the great things about the show is that it doesn't shy away from who the gangsters and their surrounding friends and families are: a bunch of selfish criminals. Being a bad person is a job requirement. The writers don't try to make their characters heroes, and i applaud them for that. Are there any truly good regular characters? Maybe Bobby Baccalieri but he threatens the union guy's family in that bar and probably has committed other bad acts we don't see. Meadow, like her mother, is a huge hypocrite and spoiled brat. Melfi should have not become a criminal enabler like her mentor said she was. I might go w/ Artie's wife Charmaine. She refused to look the other way and was oddly hot:

Livia is a legit sociopath. She's where Tony inherited his real dark side from. Janice's probably the same too. Anything to get their way without any genuine feeling for others. Except Pie O Mie.

Agree with all that. Sopranos served as a good contrast to the romanticization of The Godfather. They're what they truly are a bunch of petty dirtbags. Bobby B had a more friendly temperament, but he was still a murderer. Good call on Charmaine too.
