Lion King remake casts Seth Rogan and Billy Eichner as Timon and Pumbaa

We may have to change the name of that signature song to “Huh huh huh-kuna matata.” Seth Rogen, known among many things for his signature deep laugh, and Billy Eichner, of Parks and Recreation/Billy on the Street fame, are, according to The Wrap, in final negotiations to voice the comic-relief warthog and meerkat in Jon Favreau‘s photo-realistic update of The Lion King. (It feels odd calling it “live-action” when all the animals will likely be CG.) While Favreau didn’t use motion-capture for the animals in his remake of The Jungle Book, he did use visual references that included real animals and videos of the actors’ performances, so it’s safe to say you might see some resemblance to the stars in the final rendering, however subtle.
Timon and Pumbaa were originally voiced by Nathan Lane and Ernie Sabella. The ubiquitous Lane has at times been replaced by Kevin Schon and Bruce Lanoil in subsequent sequels and spin-offs; Sabella has continued to play Pumbaa in most media to this day, save one Disney skating video game for which Leslie Hedger did the honors. Together, they helped turn “Hakuna Matata” into both an earworm of a song and a national catchphrase that is inevitably the first Swahili phrase learned by many children.
Nerdist has reached out to Disney for confirmation, but they do not comment on casting rumors. We figure if Seth Rogen can make a talking sausage compelling, a lovable warthog is no problem.
With Donald Glover as Simba, and James Earl Jones returning as Mufasa, the Pride Lands are slowly filling up. Who would you like to see join this circle of onscreen animal life? Comment below with your best suggestions.

Knew you guys would love this

I have faith that Favreau will find the right balance. Not familiar with Eichner but Rogen is a good choice.

Eichner is the guy who nearly ruined the later seasons of Parks and Rec
That being said, his voice and obnoxious screaming could work as Timon

I was kinda surprised by this casting but after thinking back and remembering Timon and Pumba im really ok with both of these castings.
Eichner also has a really punchable face. I feel like his voice will be a lot less abrasive when not paired with said face.

Pure blasphemy. Not sure how you can improve on Disney's greatest feat to date.

Yeah, Pumba is supposed to be a fat slob, which is exactly what I think when hear Seth Rogen's voice.

That's true as well. His dumb face during his rants was pretty damn annoying.

Holy mother of god.. what two awful choices

I mean if they got JEJ back as Mustafa why couldn't they get Nathan Lane and Ernie Sabella back?

I'm not sure Rogan can get excited enough to do this ...

Y'all watch Billy on the street.

Billy on the street is pretty funny

I have no idea which is which, but Rogan's laugh combined with Eichner's inability to not gay scream all of his lines is a hard pass for me. I might not even see the movie now.
They recast James earl Jones. Why not recast Nathan Lane?
And Rowan Atkinson?
And Matthew Broderick?
And Jeremy Irons?
If the point is just to update the graphics, because it's not live action, because there aren't people in it, why not just use the entire original soundtrack?
I won't even see this stupid thing.
I mean I definitely will see it and I'll probably like it, but I'm going to complain about it because it's a terrible casting decision.
