Been a while since I've read that. I'll definitely read it tomorrow. It's good shite.

all the miyagi crap is bullshite.

yes larusso was a whiney prick. but that's what makes him interesting and watchable. and not a cookie cutter protagonist.

but here's an interesting thought on the villains.

Really? the group of badasses in the school in Califrickingfornia were a group of white rich kids who do karate? this is 1984 during the HEIGHT of LA gangs and in a california public school certain to be rife with black and latino gang members who wouldn't dance around and try to karate chop you, they would stab or kill you. Danielsan shouldn't have been afraid of the cobra kai, he should've been afraid of the crips and the bloods.

Also, let's just assume for a second that they went to a school without minorities. The badasses take karate? They don't play football? Johnny Lawrence who looks to be 6'2 225 doesn't play linebacker, he kicks/chops people with a bunch of flunkies? What american high school is this? in what high school in america is ANYONE afraid of the dude(s) that do karate. The dudes that do karate are the ones that learn to do it because of how tired they are at getting the shite kicked out of them at real sports or by people who do real sports.

Also, if it's a public school, how did a girl from the hills go to the same school as a kid from Reseda. There are like 500 high schools in between them. But it's still close enough for Daniel to ride his bike home. Interesting.

another question- if danielsan gets killed for all of the shite that he does to provoke the local natives, then why does mitchell goosen get a pass for doing all the same things if not worse in Airborne.

Come on.

Ali's "friends" had her back a little too much...especially this c-blocker...they were like her bodyguards...and they were "with Ali" at the dance instead of dates of their own. Hmm?

Why Ali broke up with Johnny is starting to make more sense now. She's experimenting. And Daniel is just effeminate enough.

Don't forget that Ali turns out to be a cleat-chasing whore. In Karate Kid 2, she leaves Larusso for some guy that plays football at UCLA. Oh and then goes to the Caribbean to get screwed by Tom Cruise in Cocktail.

And Reseda is by all accounts a shithole.

None of this answers the question of her sexuality.

Also, after giving Daniel the car for his birthday (which Daniel never once says thank you for, btw), Daniel shockingly admits to Miyagi that "you're the best friend I ever had.." And what is his response to Daniel's deep-hearted admission? "You pretty okay too." Way to crush a young boy's heart, Yags.

How shitty is New Jersey when a Japanese WW2 vet in his seventies that teaches you some karate in his spare time is the best friend you have had in your entire life?

But Tom Cruise is kind of gay. We can all agree on that can't we?

Okay, so Mr. Miyagi is how old? He fought in WWII, so assuming he was about 20 in 1944, and the movie was set in 1984, let's assume he is 60. So a 60 year old janitor/handyman of some shady apartment complex "befriends" a 14 year old boy. They constantly hang out, alone, at Miyagi's house. Miyagi takes him on trips (like to the beach and fishing), loves rubbing on "sore parts" of his body (and claps excitedly before doing so), actually gives him alcohol at one point, and gives him a car. Makes me wonder if his full name is Mr. Michael Jackson Miyagi. And let's not forget that instead of spending his birthday with his own mother, he spends it with Mr. "Hands" Miyagi.

He is a 60 year old medal of honor winner but yet apparently nobody in town knows much if anything about Mr. Miyagi. How many MOH winners go completely unnoticed?

This has never been cleared up. Why is the wife of a Sergeant in the US Army in a Japanese Internment Camp?

That actually happened a lot. You could get out of the internment camps by volunteering for military service. They sent the Japanese soldiers to Europe so that they wouldn't have to worry as much about who their loyalty was with.

The Nisei Japanese soldiers in WW2 aka the 442nd Infantry Regiment is one of the most combat-decorated regiments in all of WW2 including 21 MOH winners.

Where Ali and her friends live...this is the population breakdown now...1980's probably even less minorities.

Yeah...I should have known after reading Korematsu v. United States...the endorsement of the US govt. policies by the Supreme Court.

My grandfather who could speak fluent German got sent to Alaska to fight the Japanese. Go figure. I can only imagine that they thought my grandfather was a little too anxious to get back to the Fatherland.

Makes even less sense. Daniel rides his bike to and from school. There are literally dozens of public high schools between/around these places..

My family was half European and half American during WWII so we were painting both sides of the fence.

My mom was born in Austria during the war and they immigrated to the States just after...she has a Swastika on her birth certificate...talk about weirdness when she went to get her driver's license in CA.

So I had a few relatives who were in the German Army (everyone was enlisted without questions - one was captured in Africa and sent to a POW camp in Texas)...while I have a relative who was born and raised in Louisiana and was in the Marine Corps sent to the Pacific (Okinawa) during the War.

When he was on Dancing with the Stars, it was revealed that Macchio's son is named Daniel.

I felt bad for him when I heard that.

Yeah. Feel bad for that iconic 80s actor still working and living in sunny California, still rich and happily married. That poor bastard.

I feel bad for someone whose biggest acheivement is playing the worst protagonist ever. Unless you think his biggest acheivement was "Crossroads"...
