What sets no country for old men apart from it is that it's smarter. And Anton Chigurh, one of the greatest characters of all time to me

I do agree Brolin and Pine are a wash.

I mean if we are being honest the two movies aren't really THAT comparable. Some similarities, sure. But not THAT similar

But they both happen in Texas so they are practically the same movie.

Well, considering NCFOM basically had no soundtrack....

Hell or High Water is an ok flick. Worth a single viewing.

Compared to No Country, its a steaming pile of dogshit.

Hell or High Water was a very good movie with a narrow scope. NCFOM is a masterpiece with a much "bigger" story.

Also, Hell or High Water just doesn't have a performance that compares to Bardem's. Chigurh is one of the best characters in movie history.

I agree, and I really like NCFOM. Since we are opening this can of worms, TWBB>NCFOM as well.

There Will Be Blood is by far the best movie when compared to Hell or High Water and NCFOM.

It goes:

1) There Will Be Blood
2) HOHW
3) NCFOM

All of which are excellent films.

Watched it last night with the family based on this thread. It wasn't anywhere close to NCFOM. I enjoyed it very much, but is a pretty simplistic "cops and robbers" movie. Very straightforward plot. The only real comparison is "respected old actor plays crusty old ranger" - that's it. And Tommy Lee Jones played a much deeper character. The plot was much more convoluted in No Country. HoHW was a good but forgettable flick. And I was pumped to see it because I'm on a Ben Foster right now after rewatching Alpha Dog last week and 3:10 to Yuma a couple days ago (and every time I catch it on).
