If The Door goes down as the time Bran learned a valuable lesson about looping and warging, it will be perfect, and we can go from there. If it becomes Quantum Thrones, it will be a bigger letdown than Prometheus.
I think the Walkers will win just because of the Dothraki prophesy. I don't think Martin would have put that in there unless there was something to it. It would definitely satisfy the nihilistic "everyone must die" crowd.
Maybe a few survivors sail west out of Old Town searching for a new home, sailing away to where no one has ever returned. There might be a good reason that we aren't really told what lies between Asshat and Westeros.
