It’s a mediocre power trip movie.

The only thing is I end up hating everything me and just want to turn off the movie

It pissed me off that the DA got the best of him in the end. Thought that was total bullshite.

Yep. Would've been a good movie if Butler rode off into the sunset, after taking care of all the people that deserved it

Isn't there an alternate ending where this happens? It's been a while since I've seen it, so I may be wrong.

Watched it for the first time last week. Agreed that the opening scene is pretty jarring if you weren't ready for that .

I see some people commenting about "wrong guy died at the end" and I see I wasn't alone in being a bit confused about who the protagonist was supposed to be. It seemed Butler's character is the one you're supposed to root for as he white knights for a better justice system, but then he starts to indiscriminately assassinate anyone even loosely connected to his wife's murder and it's capped off with Fox's character getting the best of him at the end, which suggests Fox was the "good guy" who wins in the end? It just leaves you very confused about how to feel about the results.

It was also a tad disappointing that this character is so brilliant and such an advanced strategist that he goes out like he does. And not to nitpick too much on an already far-fetched movie, but the timeline in the end is hard to imagine that Fox beat him back to his cell, considering Butler was halfway back to the prison by the time Fox came up with his plan.

There is no effing way Gerard’s character could have been out his cell for hours and hours at a time without being noticed by the corrections officers. He would have been under 24hr watch as soon as they thought he was communicating with a partner on the outside.

I'm curious if they put Jamie Foxx in the same prison after the Feds moved in once a state/federal prison was blown up and the security cameras showed him planting the bomb in the prison. He took out an entire wing of the prison. Can't tell me a corrections officer or two didn't die from that.

Watched it last night.

Movie is sort of a mess. All over the place.

And Jaime Foxx had one expression for all 7 emotions which dragged the film down.

His constant perpexled stoicism... I'm confused why I'm being so stoic got old and he had no range of emotions. A better actor would have made the movie far more enjoyable.

I've never hated Jamie Foxx more than in this movie. I don't care if it was right or wrong, I wanted to see him get blown the hell up at the end

This is where it felt like two people wrote different halves of the script

First half of the movie, he’s a Robin Hood anti hero, bringing down the system that failed him in a V for Vendetta style, with calculated moves that move towards his end goals

Then second half someone went “what is an anti hero? frick that noise” and he randomly decided to start killing innocent people for no real reason and became a sloppy terrorist that’s only goal was to make Jamie Foxxs character seem sympathetic
