He didn’t know that. He was under the assumption that she was kidnapped. Had he known that she went willingly, he might’ve gotten over her and got with another chick.
How do you know he didnt know?

Kingsguard isn’t the same as the Night’s Watch.

I’d suspect that little finger also took every opportunity to run the crown further into debt. More debt = greater chance for chaos = the ladder grows.

It is in regard to marriage and inheritance. There's a whole scene about it between Tyrion and Tywin.

I don't like his financial policy. How do you run up a huge debt when you aren't even at war for most of your reign? How many whores was he banging?
He had that congressional slush fund whore money underbudgeted.

Gendry for king. Make the realm great again!

A decent number of people had Gendry as king with Arya as queen as a dark horse for who's on the Iron Throne at the end.
It would tie everything together pretty nicely too, if you go back to the very first episode King Robert wanted to marry the two houses because he said the Barathons and the Starks were meant to be united and rule and what not.

All Bobby B wanted to do was whore and boar while the common folk prospered. RIP King Bobby B.

While a "Likable" character, Robert was a bad King. Sure, he is a conqueror and know how to party like there's no tomorrow that doesn't make him a "good" king.
He allowed Little Finger to rob his Kingdom blind. His wife was screwing his brother under his nose and having kids. His hand was assassinated, his second hand (Eddord) was executed, he allowed the Kingdom to go neck deep in debt. He surrounded himself with a bunch of "yes" people that didn't have the mettle to stand up and say "no" to him and that cost him.
Sorry..I would love to party with Robert, but he was a terrible King.

While I agree Robert has been the best ruler, primarily by default, the central thesis of the books is that authoritarian rule is a bad idea, regardless of who that person is. Even a well-intentioned ruler is doomed, as resting all power of the state in one person is insane.
But benign (drunken) neglect really is the way to go, if you have to have a king.

He's the Grant of Westerosi kings.
I know people are about that finance thing.
The show does a poor job of describing Westeros and Essos political situation.
Essos could not stand to a raid or invasion by Westeros. So it's kind of appease the dog in a lawful above board way.
The Golden Company is really neutered in the show. They should be thousands of Westerosi type knights and men-at-arms. Which just absolutely fricks up anyone who can afford to pay them to march.
Barristan absolutely trashed any Essos folk he came up against.
Jorah is a juggernaut.
Robert was convinced that a united kingdom could throw back the Dothraki (sans dragons) as an afternoon lark. And he was probably right.
The big problem for him was spending coin to get people under the new management. Knowing there was still enemy houses. Small territorial conflicts among the lesser houses not being handled by their respective Wardens not named Ned or Tywin.

quote:Robert was a dumb shite, but he was certainly preferable to his successors.
Sure, Robert wasn’t political saavy, had bad spending habits. But he wouldn’t hurt his own innocent people. He’s willing to protect and go down with his kingdom. Doesn’t hold grudges against the enemies he fought as he’s willing to party with them the next day. Had a sense of humor, willing to laugh at himself. I’d gladly choose king Robert vs the others as my ruler.
You might argue that his slovenly, drunken nature actually ushered in all the horror that followed. If he were on top of his shite, he probably wouldn't have been poisoned by Cersei and her previously transitioning cousin/lover. And if he lived long enough, someone or something surely would have killed Joffrey while Tommen would have had a chance to grow up and gain some strength.
Or, even more elementally, he would have been able to sniff out that his wife was banging her brother/one of his Kingsguard--especially after they bore three children that look absolutely nothing like anyone related to him.
You know what. frick Robert. Cuck.

He was the Working mans King. Which is why the politicians and people who were fancy lads and women didn't respect him.
