Kevin Hart has stepped down as host of the 2019 Oscars. The actor-comedian made the announcement on Twitter late Thursday, which included an apology to the LGBTQ community, after his past anti-gay comments resurfaced following Tuesday’s news that he would emcee next year’s Academy Awards. “This is because I do not want to be a distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many amazing talented artists,” Hart wrote. “I sincerely apologize to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past.”

May we live in less interesting times

Didn’t think he was gonna be as bad of a host as a lot were making it seem before.

Weird that this is just now coming to light given how famous Kevin Hart already is. Guess it shows how gay Oscars' enthusiasts are.

I’d be willing to bet that the people who started this don’t even watch the Oscars. Just the same jackasses on Twitter who have nothing else to do but look for shite to complain about

This is what we get for legitimizing homosexes

Kevin Hart isn't that great or funny to begin with so this isn't really a loss.

Exactly. We get it, you are short. He plays the same character in every movie.

How does your stupid comment refute him?

Last I read he refused to apologise. Sucks they broke him

Patrice O'Neal had a really good bit on comedians and the people who are offended by them. His argument was (at least in part) when a person is trying to be funny and it fails it still doesn't make a lot of sense to vilify them for anything other than failing to be funny.
I do think Kevin Hart is funny. He's obviously cashed in on being typecast but that's hardly a him only kind of issue (Chris Farley, Richard Pryor, Melissa McCarthy are other examples of successful comics who are remembered for their typecast movie characters).
I could be wrong. If KH secretly hates lesbians and gays and them admitted that was the purpose of some of his jokes that would be different. But barring that kind of revelation I think sacrificing comics to the altar of public outrage is a generally bad thing. What are we doing really? Shaming a public figure for the sake of anonymous twitter users feeling a false sense of purpose and/or moral superiority? Maybe those people tell jokes that are offensive too. In some ways the purpose of telling a joke is to be offensive to some sense of public values and convince listeners they should think differently. Losing that is losing one of the best remaining ways to convince people who disagree to reconsider. That's not a trivial thing to throw away.

Apparently the offensive tweets have been scrubbed from the internet
All I can find is some really dumb tweet about aids that was like typical 2009 twitter stuff
And apparently he said he hopes his son isn’t gay. Which is a totally normal thought and preference from a parent who would always choose to have their child have the most normal life possible

Never happen. But I wish The Oscars would step up and go without a host. Just an announcer. The faceless voice doing all intros of presenters and announcing nominees.
Does twitter do anything positive anymore? All you ever hear is shite like this.

Throw Anthony Jeselnik at them as host for their sins.

So which gay performer will be hosting now?
