As a Soprano/Rome guy I always thought those two shows were the best HBO has ever produced. But now, I have to retract in favor of The Wire. I've always heard good things but never gave it a chance. Well I finally did and could not believe how fantastic this series was. The realism of the show and the characters are unprecedented.
For those who have never seen it, it starts off slow, but give it a chance. You will get hooked.

Just finished season 2 and about to start 3.

Really didn't like season 2 (I think it was, the one about the docks) but if you made it though that and still like the show then it should be all good from there out.

I really liked the characters of 2, but not particularly the storyline. The sobatkas, the Greek and his crew, etc were awsome.

Season 2 is much better the second time around because you can see how the it fits the whole story. It's easy to dislike it the first time through because it's just totally different from Season 1.

Omar is probably one of the best characters in television, period.

Makes the character heaps more interesting. Also helps break television cliches and stereotypes.

Your homophobia is showing. There's nothing wrong with him being gay.

Completely agree

The scene where he is testifying against Berg is just priceless.

Bitch Lawyer to Omar: "You rob drug dealers for money. You are a leech off of the unfortunate people of society."

Omar: "Just like you, right?"

Lawyer: "What?"

Omar" "I have my shotgun, you have your briefcase...it's all part of tha game right?"

Both are great, but neither is top 5 in HBO terms. In order:

Wire
Mr. Show
Deadwood
Six Feet Under
Larry Sanders (beats out BoB on longevity and Curb on consistency)

I may give The Wire a look. Love HBO series, especially Sopranos (rewatching currently on OnDemand), Deadwood, Oz, etc.

I'm a diehard Sopranos fan. Oz jumped the shark in the later seasons, but I still love the show.

I have full seasons for Sopranos, Oz and The Wire. Best way to watch the Wire is to just get the entire box set, and lock yourself indoors for about a week.
