Probably shouldn't admit it here, but I've never seen the whole thing. At least not all at once.

One of the few times that a movie was better than a book. And the book is one of King's best.

Jack Nicholson won an oscar for "cukoo's nest" before he did The Shining. He was already a huge star then.

They did a made for TV movie with the guy from Wings about a decade ago. I think King liked that version IIRC.

Because he's an artist who wants a literal adaptation.

Kubrick apparently had no interest in that as a genius.

There's a doc that shows Kubrick smashing King figuratively in the end scene...the car in the book is a red Bug.

The car in the movie is a yellow Bug which takes Jack to Overlook...a red Bug in the book is seen at the end smashed up and crashed as wife and kid escape.

I think King is a better prose stylist than people give him credit for and his talent for characterization is excellent. However; he’s dog shite at wrapping a story up and giving it a satisfying ending. He’s the JJ Abrams of writers. Can’t draw together a good conclusion to save his life.

Kubrick’s Shining movie is better than King’s book and that’s from someone who otherwise always thinks books are better.
