I have to post this every time this movie is discussed...

I read that Rob Zombie said his intent with this movie wasn't for it to be called a great horror movie. He wanted to make a movie that would cause the viewer to say, "What the heck did I just watch? That was a demented movie." I think he succeeded.

True, he accomplished that, I didn't get it thinking "oh man I'm about to watch a horror masterpiece" I knew it would be a weird and wtf kind of movie, but it went above and beyond what I was expecting, overall I liked it, just caught me off guard a little.

Don't get me wrong, I loved the movie. But the underground scene at the end was probably the most messed up thing I've ever viewed.

+1, this movie along with a few others is so disturbing to me because it makes you empathize with the character and you legitimately feel bad for them, it kinda humanizes everything

I don't think anybody went into it intending to see a "great horror movie" either. But I'd bet money that he didn't want people to think it was bad. And I thought it was bad.

my brain is trying to remember this movie.

IIRC, is this the movie that (spoiler alert kinda maybe)

wasn't really supernatural thru most of the movie and then at the end they went with that route.

if so, that was my complaint with the movie. i was expecting it to be effed up after seeing devil's rejects.

IMO the movie was too campy to be scary or creepy.

I initially thought it was entertaining, but I think it's because I'm a bigger fan of the original TCM, so I realized I was enjoying the homage he paid to it more then the movie itself

I have this weird thing with torture/slasher movies like this...I hate them, hate watching them, but always read their wikis to see what happens. This movie's been on a lot lately, so I'll check out five mins. here and there, even though I know what happens, every time something fricked up is about to happen, I have to change it. Just usually can't watch shite like that.

seemed like RZ made a fricked up movie just so people would say, "what the frick did I just watch". but I'm not a huge fan of the genre, so what do I know.

House of 1000 corpses is the most comparable to TCM due to the torture they put people through, but it was for a purpose in TCM. They were cannibals, but in House, these people just tortured and killed people for fun. Killing was their idea of family time. The movie never indicated a purpose other than they were crazy.

Granpa was hilarious!

And another thing my brother and I were talking ab the other day is the guy who played Otis (white haired guy) was stunning in this role. I actually believed he could be a real killer out there somewhere.

ok i went back and read about it and yeah that was my problem with this movie.

what was so cool about TCM is that something that fricked up could actually happen.

i dunno, i'm kinda down with movies showing how awful humans can be but then they do the underground thing with monsters and demons and whatever and i just didn't dig that.

hated the ending because of that.

There were no monsters or demons in the underground scene that I remember. They were real people, which is what made it so strange.

so wait the goggle wearing squid mouthed 7 ft axe weilding thing was supposed to be human??

and the emaciated (sp?) eagle faced balding thing hooked up by the arms to some machine thing next to the surgery table was human too?

i'm trying to digest that.

That was Dr. Satan. The whole movie centered around him.

I wonder how these 2 act on a daily basis. Do they go eat like normal people or do they do weird shite like how we see them dressed and acting all the time.
