Lee is the only character who doesn't discard his ideals in the face of inconvenience.

Yeah but to me his "ideals" are typically to just go against the grain for the sake of doing so. Especially if it is in contrast to his father's beliefs and actions.

IMO his more obnoxious contrarianism all stems from the trauma of being the one to destroy the Olympic Carrier in 33.

Helo is the moral center of the show. He's almost always doing unpopular things on principle.

Lee's trauma is being overshadowed by his father.

Just finished the series last night and I have to say I really enjoyed it. Here are thoughts/questions from the last season:

- YAY Callie died!!!!
- The 2 episodes dealing with Gaeda and Zereck's attempted takeover of the BSG were my 2 favorite of the series. Very intense episodes.
- Very cool shot when they blindly jump and you see the BSG orbiting the moon and Africa in the distance
- So what was Kara? An angel?
- Also were the Baltar and Caprica 6 characters we saw on present day earth in the last scene just for narrating purposes or are we supposed to believe that they were "angels" as well that were there?

One of the best arcs yes. A great pay off for both characters i think.

Yes.

Inspiration? Spirits? I wouldn't say angel, I would say some other ethreal being. They took the form of what was necessary to move man in the right direction.

I believe that Kara is functionally-defined as well. Her "origin" was left intentionally ambiguous so as to reinforce that the supernatural does not necessarily fit our preconceptions. That's how I think of the show's "pathfinders" anyway.

God I hated Callie.

Well it's good to know that angels throw leg around like Kara did.

The way it ended it also left you with the feeling that even though the original settlers took a different path that those before them, that it would inevitably end the same way. Thought that was good.

All of this has happened before and will happen again.

I read an article that proposed that due to the show's heavy emphasis on polytheism versus monotheism and its trend from the former to the latter, it could be argued that the three main characters (William Adama, Lee Adama, and Kara Thrace) represented the "father, son, and holy spirit" trinity from Christianity - all of which played a major role in the salvation of humanity.

I think Kara was absolutely human prior to the end of Season Three when she mysteriously jumped to Earth. After that, her spirit guided the crew towards Earth.

The article also mentioned that if you watch the fourth season, only the characters that had known Kara prior to her jump to Earth (therefore, had a conscious memory of her) interact with her in the Fourth Season, suggesting that she can only be seen and heard by them.

Would love to read this if you can find it again.

I doubt it. Simply the rule of three at work.

quote:

I also believe this. She was an unwitting prophet whose atonement was rewarded. Once she faced death and overcame her fear of insignificance, she took a leap into the unknown and returned with divine purpose.

quote:

The article also mentioned that if you watch the fourth season, only the characters that had known Kara prior to her jump to Earth (therefore, had a conscious memory of her) interact with her in the Fourth Season, suggesting that she can only be seen and heard by them.

This doesn't make any sense. When she returns after months of being presumed dead, it seems that everyone on board Galactica crowds the flight deck to witness this insane woman ranting about having been gone for six hours. Only those previously conscious of her interact with her because they are the only characters within the scope of the narrative.

That is interesting. I do like the holy trinity analogy.

But how many new characters were there in the 4th season that she hadn't interacted with before?

In the midst of rewatching the entire series. Like all great series, there are a few throw-away episodes, but over all, the writing and acting are great. Every chacracter is flawed, but not so over the top that they get on your nerves...except for Ellene Tigh. That woman needed killin'...painfully. Great show. Enjoying the replay.

If he's still writing and producing it, someone should notify him that it's not airing anymore

Who is your cousin's husband?

I invest a few years in some of the better TV I've watched in years, and then get hit over the head with a series finale about ghosts??

I was less than happy
