Although I was just a wee lad, there is still nothing close to seeing Jurrasic Park in the movie theater when it Premiered.

It's almost unexainavle, but everybody, no matter what their age, was spellbound and in total awe of what they were seeing... It was palpable.

Probably only Jaws is on the same level for the people that saw it when it Premiered, but I'll never know...

Regardless, we'll probably never see the likes of such an experience again. It was all word of mouth, and no one could actually really describe it, they just said, "you have to go."

Watched it last night. First time TRex comes thru the fence, inbetween the two cars, and roars STILL an awesome experience.

The magic of Jaws was through the pacing, acting, and score. They manipulated your imagination perfectly.

With Jurassic Park, they gave you what you had imagined your entire life.

The tag line for Superman The Movie was that you would believe a man could fly. It wasn’t a meaningless boast. Up to that point we had never seen a superhero truly fly.

That’s what they gave us with JP. Something we’d always wanted but could never have.

I was a tiny kid at that point, and I liked cars. I saw Jurassic park, and I became a dinosaur expert after. That single movie made my interests change completely, and I’ve had a love for dinosaurs ever since

There's almost nothing about this thread that can be considered accurate.

My local theater screened it for the 20th anniversary in 2013, it was fricking awesome.

I saw it in the theater when it came out. It was cool but I wasn't blown away or anything like that. Batman and Terminator 2 were better experiences for me.

I saw it opening night. Line was wrapped around the corner of the shopping center the theater was in.

I’ll never forget when Ian Malcolm said the “That’s one big pile of shite.” line. The theater popped so damn loud. I’ll remember that theater experience forever.

Grapevine theatre on main street runs older movies on weekends only. Had Jurassic park and empire strikes back two weeks ago and jaws last weekend. Didn't have time to go Was telling my wife how great JP was in the theatre as a kid.

I think JP for my generation (born 1980) is about what Star Wars was for my dad.

I saw it when I was 6. When I got home, I dug a bunch of holes in my back yard hoping to find dinosaur bones. I actually did find bones and got so excited only for my mom to tell me that they were chicken bones left by the construction workers that built our house.

Completely agree. It was pure movie magic I’ve never been able to forget or surpass.

Like other posters have said, Jaws and Superman are similar types of cinema magic.

Terminator 2 came close as well. The score and special effects there were definitely top notch and drew you in. Cameron did it again with Titanic as well. Knock it all you want but seeing that for the first time on the big screen was an absolute journey. Even Avatar had the visual magic to make it a true cinematic experience.

But the real competition with JP to me is The Fellowship of The Ring. After falling in love with the books and waiting so long for it happen I just never imagined Jackson could pull it off the way he did. I was blown away and still get goosebumps when I see so many scenes.

Only thing that has come close was watching The Dark Knight opening day on IMAX. The crowd was so amped.

I never saw this movie in theaters. I re-release would be swell.
