It's a musical. I don't think this movie is going to do very well. Presales for opening weekend are currently weak. Making it a musical was a bold choice

I think it will do a lot better than the Venice reviews would indicate. The Gaga factor alone will keep it from being anywhere close to a flop. Then the nostalgia of wanting to revisit the Phoenix performance. And I think it will get a boost from people who kinda wanna witness a potential train wreck.

Regardless, from the second it was announced to randomly be a "musical" the review aggregates were pretty much guaranteed to land anywhere from 4-6, where people are either going to love it or loathe it. And most made their decision about it a long time ago.

I really liked the first one, but I have the bad feeling this is going to mess it all up.

Besides just being a retread of previous movies
Yeah, at least they cast DeNiro in it as a nod to what they were ripping off.

The first one was okay, though far from the based classic some say it is. It's not a terrible one-off film, but a sequel is too much and I haven't heard anything positive about this.

looks like most of the movie is "made up" in his head based off the snippets. e.g. He's out of jail, roaming around, dancing, singing, has a tv show, etc..

I like a musical, but this is the part I'm worried about.

Looks awful.

And I loved Joker.

If I'm not interested this movie won't do well.

Nobody who disliked the first one will be interested and if it was made to shite on fans of the first one I'm not sure who the audience is.

Clearly I'm in the minority. I don't see what everyone else sees is so awful about this film. Music in the trailer seems to fit, and looks like a good tragedy story. I'm interested in watching this one.

Reading between the lines (and in some cases not having to do so) it sounds like this movie is a big middle finger to the fans of the first movie.

If so, this is beyond perplexing.

This one has a 63% on RT so far while the first had a 69%. Not exactly great for either.

A YouTube film reviewer that I watched ranked this as the worst film he saw at one of film festivals he went to. Said it was absolutely terrible
